Love it
After months of reviewing this thread and suffering from a severe case of "chub envy"...I finally jumped on an opportunity to pick up this highly talked about piece of glass. I wound up picking up a VRI, and hopefully I will have it by the end of the week. While I am very excited, I am also conscientious of the fact that it will take some time and practice to get the results I want from this lens.
I want to thank everyone who has posted in this thread...it has been a pleasure view the shots, but I really learned quite a bit from reading the various comments on this lens.
The Owls were not very cooperative to get close enough today, but I did capture one looking my way at least with a 200VR + 1.4TC (280) Cropped heavily, D3X/200VR + 1.4TC/ISO 250/f2.8/1/320th sec -1/3EV
Thanks Rick. It was pretty cool being so close to him, and he was very tolerant of me being there. He's seen a lot of people before, of course, and has become somewhat desensitized to us. As long as I didn't interfere with his grass eating, he didn't mind my being there.
This shot gives a good idea of his location. I stayed on the other side of the fence from him, but he was much closer at times though... like in the second one below...
This spot on Hyatt Lane is my favorite in the Cove. I just love it.
I don't know my birds well, so I'll just post this one and observer...
I loved the way the light hit this one, and the landscape isn't bad either, with the bird standing out so well. Shot with 1.4 TC on 200VR/D3X combo, same for shot prior to this.
