It's an amazing lens, sold mine to get the Canon version because it adapts much better also to Sony bodies. They are both magical (maybe the old F1.8 even a tad more so, even if it's optically a bit less corrected since it's not an apo design).
Especially the first VR can now be found for almost reasonable prices and usually they are in pretty good shape since their owners seem to baby them a lot vs more wildlife-oriented superteles

Yes. You are right for the best pictures rendering.
The 200/2 was a bit dethroned by the 105E which was again dethroned by the 50/1.2 S.
Looking forward for the 85/1..2 S.
I haven't used 50/1.2S, but I have both 200/2 and 105E. And I don't see how 200/2 was dethroned by 105E! Far from it. If it wasn't for the size/weight, 200/2 would still be glued to my camera! I still much prefer the overall colors and rendering out of the 200/2, not to mention my preference on the compression I get from 200mm compared to 105mm, let alone 50mm!
I have the 58, 105 and 200 f/2 - pictures from the last lens always are pleasing, it's almost like you can shoot the most silly subject and the pictures look special may be I am biased
58 is easier to carry than 105 which is easier than 200 f/2 to carry/handle. However, nothing beats the 200 f/2 IMHO.
To each their own I guess but all three lenses are quite different from each other so no way one dethrones the other.
I would be very happy to have the 50 mm F1.2 in my bag, but having the 50mm f1.8 and the 58mm f1.4g, I haven’t felt the need. While the 1.2 is sharper, I like the rendering of the 58mm more.....and the 50mm f1.8 is a little gem in itself if I want sharpness at that focal length. But none of these can do what a 200mm f2 does. It’s just the nature of the focal length.

Nothing is going to dethrone the 200 f2, I own the 105 1.4 and the 50 1.2 and neither can do as well as what my 200 f2 does in overall isolation and pop.
Great set. It must be hard to let go of such a beautiful lens. There is nothing like 200/f2. I never owned one, but have seen enough images to see how special this lens is. You can always use it as part of the workout ?

Luka
Thank you Luka, it is a unique lens, very fast AF and the results are fantastic. I had this feeling to sell it from long time ago but I never have the strength to post it in the B&S forum ;-)
Met up with this family for a few pre-Christmas portraits but it started pouring rain 15 minutes after we started. Thankfully I brought out the 200mm f2 quickly as this lens always gives me something I like!
