I've tried all manner of gripping things, but it's stuck solid. I bought the lens used from KEH, but who knows what the previous owners did to the filter, if anything.

I learned much to my dismay that the drop in filter holder from the 300/2.8 and up does not fit in the 200/2. Which filter holder does fit? The clear glass filter in my lens supplied filter holder will not unscrew, so I need another filter holder to use with my ND filters.

I seem to recall that mine was difficult to undo first time round, and when it did loosen it seemed like it wasn't down to force applied, although I'm sorry to say I can't recall the specifics of what I did now, sorry.
Mine seemed "stuck" too! And I mean glued... but randomly I applied force on both side of the filter (pick two spots opposite each other) and it loosened right up... hard to explain but hope this helps!

At the risk of stating the obvious...
you're turning JUST the filter and not it's housing??
Had a friend trying to turn the whole deal, when 2 fingers
on the NC itself did the trick. GL
I had to use pliers to get mine out! It really was stuck.

Thanks all. I found someplace that had the filter holder in stock, and it came yesterday. Of course, first thing I did was take out the old one and test the new one to make sure it was the right one. Yup, all good. So before I put the old one back in I decided to clean it. Wipe glass with wet wipe, begin to wipe with dry, and of course the old filter starts rotating freely. Sonofa!!!!! It figures. :-) Well, at least now I have a spare.
Serious question: who the duck had that in stock I need to call them.

Was able to get out for a walk along the river today, enjoying the beautiful spring weather. The sun is finally shinning after what seemed to be weeks of rainy, dreary weather.
