Couple from this morning's session...AF speed was insane!
These are incredible captures with the TC-20III. I think I may have to keep my eye open for one of these TC's

Thanks! I read somewhere that the III was "made" for the 200 f2. Never even tuned it. This was my
relatively fast BIF combo 'til I could find a sweet deal on the 500 f4. Remarkable AF speed/accuracy.

I rented the 2.0 III, but it's been raining. The clouds broke and I popped it on the 200/2 and put the D500 on it for kicks. The AF was really pretty good. I couldn't believe it. It slowed down a bit indoors, but I'd expect that with a f/4 lens (I haven't had a lens slower than 2.8 since I went digital, about twelve years ago). I rented the TC to shoot surfing with my 400/2.8, but the rain and bad waves may squelch that before I have to return it, but I'm pick one up to go along with the 1.4x III.

Before I bought my used 600f4 I rented a few big lenses to help make the decision. The 2.0 III played the best with the 300 & 400 f2.8 and the Chub. These lenses have a ton of sharpness to spare and with high ISO capabilities on new cameras f5.6 can be acceptable. I have even found it usable on my 600 f4 under the right conditions. The new AF system on the D5 and D500 improved AF speed a bit further with the 2.0 in my opinion.
Did you crop or is this the view through the 200mm?
What is the exposure time?
Did you use an equatorial mount?
(sorry for all those questions)
Thank you! I'm happy to answer any questions I can.
This is composed of twenty four 30 second full frame photos combined in Photoshop.
I used an Astro-physics 1200 GTO mount..
