I love all these new lenses. About time the competition starts to catch up and maybe surpass Canon quality. This competition brings me hope prices will come back down to reasonable levels.
A super sharp 35mm prime would be perfect for stitching landscape panos. Will definitely be checking out this new lens when I get a chance.

The Canon 35mm f/1.4L was introduced in 1998. Indeed, 14 years later, it is about time. Frankly, Canon has the capability to upgrade that lens and based on the quality of recent Canon lenses, the upgrade would be definitely another stellar performer. The only thing we don't like about the update is the also updated......price .

+1 couldn't agree more. Canon's new stratospheric prices for some lenses are creating a great opportunity for 3rd party manufacturers.

Nice shots. How do you feel about the AF accuracy and consistency?
Thank you. I believe the AF is very quick and responsive. Reminds me of the 24LII speed. Quicker than the 35L. Putting it on a ratio i was hitting 7/10 shots. Considering the misses were due to her hair being blow in her face because of the heavy wind i was very pleased.

Also, how's the lens build/finish and operation ?
The build of the lens is an improvement over say the Sigma 50 1.4. Very solid feel to it but remember it is built from plastic composites even if it feels much stronger. It acquires focus quickly and i only experienced hunting when shooting with the sun right over her shoulder (something other L lenses do as well in that situation). So far so good.

Look like a great lens. Any colors balance adjustment here? Vipergts831. TIA

I have no doubt that this is a great lens optically, but I just don't trust its focusing performance. I owned the Sigma 85 for a bit and eventually had to sell it for the 85L. Focus consistency just wasn't up to par on any body I used it on.

Great shots Viper! After using mine over the weekend, I'm pretty impressed! Wide open performance is stellar. I can't comment too much on AF yet...I MF most of my lenses, including my 50L, giving me close to 85-90% keeper rate. Plus, I'm not limited to focus points, either, especially with kids! Don't get me wrong...I will eventually AF the Sigma...I just haven't gotten around to it yet, but I will.
I did some smaller aperture shooting today, and will post some in a bit. Nothing too exciting...I was on a walk with the dog earlier!!

Thanks Gregg. Wish I could trust my MF skills but I can't lol So to have this lens AF quickly is important to me. I was happy with windy conditions it was able to perform well.

I think this will be my first piece of non-canon glass that I keep if I get it.
Robert If you can give it a spin I would advise it. QC was such an issue with Sigma in the past as well as AF and just from using this first pick up I had no issues yet...issues I experienced immediately with the Sigma 50 1.4.

Regarding AF, I took it for a walk in NYC last night (i.e. after sunset) and had no problems with focus. In fact, focus was the only good thing that came out of the shots I got. :\ Can't win them all, but I can't blame it on the lens, that's for sure.

I ordered the lens and should have it in a week or so. The lenses just arrived in Germany. Price paid 528 euro plus taxes which is very low(Canon prices in Europe are 40-50% more than in US).
I also chat a little bit with the Sigma dealer in Romania and she mentioned there are big changes going on at Sigma...and the son of the owner(who died recently) of Sigma is determined to swing the company from offering a replacement for the big brands to offering premium products. They started with the QC.
