Perhaps before jumping into conclusions, you should consider the possibility that maybe deepbluejh got a bad copy.
nah, about 15 negative/worrisome reports from both local colleagues as well as online compared to a few rave reports about the image quality is what i've basically come across.. it was just on the back of my mind & Jamie's particular post pushed me over the edge (thankfully)

I've never gotten a bad copy of a Sigma prime...that includes, among others, the 50/1.4, 85/1.4 and the 150/2.8. And I certainly anticipate the 35/1.4 (which I have on order) will be excellent. And if it is not (tho highly unlikely) I will return it. I find it fascinating that both the Nikon and Canon fanboys continue to sully Sigma products notwithstanding the ongoing reviews and endorsments of the product line in recent years by some rather well-respected professionals.

The new 35mm F1.4
-- just received this. no focus issues
-- sharp at f1.4
-- images look great
50mm F1.4 has no issues, sharp at F1.4
85mm F1.4 has no issues, sharp at F1.4
use 35/85 as a pair.
50mm for low light indoor stuff
or when I only take one lens for people
also for panoramic stitching
Add to that the awesome 150 f/2.8 macro. Tack sharp from f/2.8, accurate and reliable AF, certainly L class material. Even my 24 f/1.8 is pretty darn good lens. yes it's got slow AF, and distortion but it's sharp wide open and AF is accurate. So far Sigma has not let me down, neither has Tamron, but I only have one Tamron lens.

I ordered the lens and should have it in a week or so. The lenses just arrived in Germany. Price paid 528 euro plus taxes which is very low(Canon prices in Europe are 40-50% more than in US).
I also chat a little bit with the Sigma dealer in Romania and she mentioned there are big changes going on at Sigma...and the son of the owner(who died recently) of Sigma is determined to swing the company from offering a replacement for the big brands to offering premium products. They started with the QC.
Do you mind to share the web link for the seller where you get them please?

Well, I'm envious of all of you that have gotten perfect Sigma lenses. I tried 2 copies of the 50/1.4, and both had inconsistent AF that couldn't be fixed with MFA. I tried one copy of the 85/1.4, and had the same problem. I even sent that in to Sigma along with my 5D3 for calibration, but it didn't help. I then bought the Canon 50/1.4 and 85L and their focus was perfect right out of the box.

And plenty would be envious of someone that got a 50L that worked out of the box.

Let's face it ladies and gentlemen, quality control issues exist at both Canon and Nikon, both of whom refuse to acknowledge the extent, and, in effect stonewall the issue by simply not responding. If you had read Roger C's blog regarding the Sigma 35/1.4 it's evident that Sigma is attempting to do something about its past QC issues in a most positive way., whereas the two biggies remain mute on the issue and assume that we mullets will continue buying their franchise issues. If Roger, and many others are correct (and they certainly appear to be based upon my personal experiences) it's a new ballgame.

This is true - though I've never had a run of bad lenses like I did with the Sigma 50 1.4. That said, I've owned a Sigma 30mm that was great on the first try - I think there is something fundamentally screwy with that 50.
Has there been any comment on the focus speed and accuracy of the Sigma 35? I may have missed it looking through this thread.

Canon and NIkon don't publish their AF protocol and third party lens makers like Sigma and Tamron reverse engineer it and thats most likely where the trouble comes in. I suspect that in the reverse engineering process some parameters have been set empirically by trial and error and they don't always work consistently enough with all the bodies when large aperture primes with shallow DOF are involved. Note that none of these problems have been reported in sigma zooms or f2.8 primes - the issues have always been with lenses like 50 1.4, 85 1.4 and 30 1.4. Sigma is the only third party AF lens maker to venture into this area - Tamron and Tokina limit themselves to zooms and slower primes - that is probably why they have been immune from this issue.

Congrats, you got one good web-sized image out of your lens? Seriously though, I have no doubt there are some "good copies" of all Sigma lenses floating around out there and that many people are happy with them. If you fall into this category, great.
Fact of the matter is, there is too much smoke for there not to be a fire and I think it's fair to say Sigma lenses have far worse quality control than Canon L lenses. That's the risk you pay for buying a third party lens that is half the price of the name brand. You didn't think you were getting something for nothing did you?
Now I am not a Sigma hater. I've owned several of their lenses in the past and have been very happy. That said, I've had poor "luck" with their fast primes in the past few years. Even so, I just might give the Sigma 35 a try once more people report back first. I am in no hurry to buy and I won't be the guinea pig for this one.

...good web sized image? Just because it HAPPENS to look good web sized doesn't mean it doesn't look amazing printed in a magazine.
I've owned the 85mm 1.2L mkII and used extensively the 85mm 1.4G on a D3X. I can afford 100 of any of them, and I chose the Sigma.

I haven't seen any evidence to support this contention. I've had to send in probably at least half of my newly purchased Ls and several EOS bodies for Canon to acknowledge and correct errors. And just so you'll know, I had a Sigma 50 that didn't focus consistently on a 40D, and when I decided to try a Sigma 30, I got three faulty copies in a row and gave up. I'm scheduled to receive my Sigma 35 1.4 on Wednesday, and I hope I'm not unlucky again.
(And for what it's worth, if anything, I haven't had any bad Micro Four Thirds products out of three bodies and six lenses from two manufacturers.)

I haven't had to send any of the Sigma 50's (7 or 8 of them) or Sigma 85's (5 or 6 of them) I've owned. I've flip-flopped Canon--> Nikon-->Canon, etc a bunch of times
I'm sure people got some lemons but I bet a lot of the complainers would kick if they were hung with a new rope! People look for things to complain about.
My 35 is being delivered tomorrow and I'm confident it's going to be as good if not better than my 35L I just sold.
Like people have said throughout this thread and a few others, Sigma has really stepped up their QC and warranty work and I have to admit, my Tamron 24-70 VC if f'ing awesome!
