I was agreeing with you! I didn't change anything! You didn't want to blame unions for the high cost of living. I agree. Salaries (and I would add, wages) are far from the main cause of high CoL but are a symptom. Either way, union members don't earn salaries and therefore high salaries aren't the fault of unions.

How quickly people forget that the main reason so many corporations moved their operations to other countries were the high costs and low productivity created by the unions...
right - all those big powerful engineering and software development unions ruined things.
average wage for non-executives: increased 3x since 1980
average wage for executes: increased 100x since 1980
yeah, it's those greedy entitled jerks who actually do the work that are the problem...

There has only been one Canon repair centre in Canad for about 3 years now. Shipping here is double what it is in the states which really is a killer.
For $100/year you can join CPS (assuming you qualify), get free shipping, a discount on the repair costs and much faster repair turnaround. Or, move to the GTA and deliver repairs in person...

I think all the Canon bashers on this forum should sell off their equipment and go Nikon
they will not be missed
You know something, you're so right. It really is amazing to me that some people can't be satisfied with hardly anything and ALWAYS, ALWAYS! have to find something to criticize something or somebody for.
Why can't we just be happy that we can afford to do photography or anything else for that matter that brings us a little pleasure in our lives. To the o/p, i'm sure there is a legitimate reason for Canon doing what they do and even if it's not, are you really going to let this keep you from enjoying taking photos?
Well, i have a T3i and a couple of lenses that i happen to enjoy very much and i'm not going to worry about where i send my equipment if and when it breaks, the same way i'm not going to worry about having an accident tomorrow. I know that eventually i will BREAK and when i do
somebody will send me somewhere to be fixed and i really don't care where as long as i'm fixed.
I'm just saying, take time to smell the roses and leave the thorns alone. The roses are much more pleasant!

At the end of the day, the success of canon will depend on their products and services. If canon feels they want to monopolize the repair market and drive out all the independent repair shops, that's fine and has been implemented in other corporations. The key is if they do that, they need to provide the service such that the customer can still get a quick turn around service for their use. Up here in canada, they suck in their service. There is only one authorized warrantee repair facility out in the east coast for the entire country. Its not unheard of the wait a month to two months time before you get your equipment back.
I love the canon products, but their warrantee and repair services leave something to be desired. This will weigh into whether or not I want to buy another canon product or recommend their products. I have thousands of dollars invested into canon. Good thing is they are quite reliable, but I do dread having to send anything in for repair. It's like throwing it into a black hole and not knowing when it will come back or how much it will cost.
