p.4 #1 · Canon Eos 3D is coming !

You don't really sound like a "bad person", but I was referring to the fact that you have consistently (note the spelling) sounded like a "bad forum participant". You're also starting to sound a bit frantic. You do realize that you can edit previous posts, right? Are you just trying to get your "Total Posts" number higher than the word count in your sig?

I already referenced the other post where you had directly cut-n-paste from MS Support above, but here it is again: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/116071

In case you don't remember, here's a snippet:
CS88 (trying to sounds knowledgeable): FAT32 is more flexible. The root folder on a FAT32 drive is an ordinary cluster chain, [blah, blah, blah]... . Note, however, that although the FAT32 design allows for this capability, it will not be implemented by Microsoft in the initial release.
Me: Well done, was that directly from Microsoft support http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=154997, or somewhere else?
Not terribly helpful.

As you posted on the Nikon board: Man it's amazing how much more "alive" the people are here in the Nikon forum than in the Canon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - - - - -I should stick around here more!

I couldn't agree more with your closing sentiment!

This will be the last I say on this subject, as it is not appropriate or relevant to this thread...

Did you write this? It's under your screen name....

well the FAT32 files system basically allows the camera (if it's supported) to recognize CF cards and Microdrives exceeding 2GB in capacity.

FAT32 is more flexible. The root folder on a FAT32 drive is an ordinary cluster chain, so it can be located anywhere on the drive. The previous limitations on the number of root folder entries no longer exist. In addition, file allocation table mirroring can be disabled, allowing a copy of the file allocation table other than the first one to be active. These features allow for dynamic resizing of FAT32 partitions. Note, however, that although the FAT32 design allows

If you forgot, you can check here and see that it is indeed written under your name. Now compare what was written here to this section of Microsoft's support site. You will find entire portions of this copied and re-arranged, and then used by you without referencing or citation. If your memory for quotations is that good, I commend you indeed; you have a very successful college career ahead of you.

Thanks to jthurber for pointing this out.

And, you did it again just now on this thread. I have not bothered to check if you've done it anywhere else. I have no interest in determining whether you are a good person or a bad person. But you should know that what you are doing is dishonest, and you should take greater care to prevent it if, in fact, you want to be perceived as an honest person.

We've been reading about an imminent "3D" since the introduction of the D30. I'd love it (I'd like a 1dMkII better) but I sure as heck won't be losing sleep over the idea!
Pete, Chasseur d'Images IS an excellant magazine (I read it here in Canada) BUT they've predicted this camera before..... lets hope someone hacks Canon's web site and gets the real info!
cheers,
john

Goodness people!!!!!!!! Ok, I now realize I did it three times solely because I was careless and wasn't thinking about anything other than getting my post in. I'm sorry for all harm, anger, aversion, and hostility that I aroused in so many people. If you're not willing to accept my apology that I give you 100% permission to CONTINUE nagging and criticizing me....I don't mind it at all, especially because now I have noticed my wrong-doings and will correct them. I've taken the time to delete many of my posts because they were not genuine. But think about this! Why nagg on me IN THE FORUM?!?! HUh answer that one!~!!!! You could have e-mailed me or something, but instead you've ruined this entire forum by showing the world how i'm a plagiarizer and such (which i'm not but did perform the action of plagiarizing without noticing). Again I'm terribly sorry and if you don't wanna forgive me that's fine....I did a really bad job on my posts anyway and probably deserve it.

Have a pleasant evening.

lordarka wrote:
Would it really make sense? I don't have hard numbers here, but I wonder how the 300D at $1000 or less affected 10D sales?

We are talking about two very different markets here. The 10D was originally designed to bring digital shooters into the EOS system. The 300D has now supplanted the 10D as the entry point, as it is cheaper than the 10D. The 10D now prices out as a modest upgrade over the 300D. But once you are above the 10D level, the market shrinks dramatically. You are now into a realm where you are mostly dealing with
...Show more

Good point BUT... Cannibalization (taking away profits from your own line of goods by introducing a new item) is an old marketing concern. Of course the 300D took away from 10D sales. But imagine what would have happened to Canon's bottom line if they didn't have a 300D when the Nikon D70 was introducted. Car manufacturers do it all the time, many cars share their chassis and technology. It's an effective way to intorduce extra models at a fraction of the cost. The fact that they have already done it successfully with the 300D means they're pretty much guaranteed to do it agian.

To survive in any market today it's always best to be your own competition. You may cut into another product's profits but if you don't somebody else will and company's bottom line is more important than each individulal line. That's why Apple introduced the iPod mini cutting into it's own iPod sales big time. That's why Gap inc. own The Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic - no matter what kind of kakis or denim you want you can get them from Gap inc. Each product line shrinks slightly but overall product sales and profits increase and that's what counts.

Also there's a much wider audience than you speculate for digital SLRs plus there's a whole market of people out there waiting to upgrade from the 10D, their previous entry level semi-pro/prosumer (whatever you like to call it) that will never be able to justify spending all that money on a 1DMKII which is a pro camera. Myself included. I've outgrown the 10D but the MKII is a bit too much for me and not just the price. An updated 10D just won't cut the mustard either and I'm willing to spend more so why shouldn't Canon earn more form me. Someone will fill the gap and nobody as experienced as Canon will leave a product gap that wide for long. Guaranteed something is planned, just hope it's not too far off because I don't want to wait another year or so to upgrade.

all right guys, let's stop pickin' on the NKOTB. (that's new kid on the block for those who don't remember that talented musical group....ok i was kidding there). so he posted things in a manner he shouldn't have, etc, but come on, this isn't a journal article in Science or Nature. the one thing i really enjoy about this forum (as compared to the leica forum on PN, unlike the rest of PN) is that this place is quite tolerant with newbie/oldie alike. so, let's not scare away anyone. and perhaps CS88 can help his own case out by observing a bit more, and perhaps cutting down his sig size somewhat...man it took me like 5 minutes to read

That's partly my fault. I should have informed him of this stuff in private, but instead chose to flog him on the forum, and that was inappropriate of me. My apologies for that, as I did not want to thrash someone publicly over this, but I tend to be pretty sensitive about plagiarism issues. So I hope CS88 can accept my apology for that. Either way, I welcome him to the board, though I would also ask him if he would not mind making his sig a little smaller.

Just a quick post, then I'm going to take some time away from the Canon SLR board (and I apologize for this being off-topic):

1) Upon reflection, sarcasm doesn't come across well in posts. Mick, what I meant to say was your response is offensive and shows a lack of understanding of what makes a successful online community. Who are you to tell me to relax, or to side with the sort of behavior that represents the worst of the internet "community". I wish I could communicate my feelings more completely, but will stop with saying that what you said upset me far beyond the mild annoyance I felt with CS88.

2) CS88's problem has nothing to do with being a new member, or a poor speller, or a plagiarist, or unreasonably noisy. Any one of those is entirely forgivable (and must be forgiven when reading this forum on any given day). It was the amazing combination of all those things that made him a target. 92 posts in 3 days... just take some time to read over any of those he hasn't deleted, and you'll see why anyone that reads here throughout the day found his noise somewhat distracting.

3) CS88 - What a wonderfully qualified and "more sinned against than sinning" response above. I'm sure you didn't realize when you accidentally cut, then paste. Don't have anything useful to contribute? Why not post anyway... tell us how we can buy a 1D for $1200 on eBay or how you heard IS works from somewhere.

4) I'm sure this sort of thing has happened in the past, but it's the first time I've gotten to see it. It seems clear to me that this board needs two things. A "block user" option, so that I can ignore all posts by a particular individual, and the ability for multiple users to request that someone be banned, or their daily posts limited. I don't think CS88 is there yet, but his first week isn't over yet. Maybe Fred could call it the "ISO adjustment" ranking, you know, so we would lower the ISO, increase the signal and decrease the noise

I'll be back in a while; this place is too good to see it go down the tubes.

Canibalization of one's own sales is a brilliant marketing tool. HP has constantly put out new printers every 3 months. The drivers always work, the printers always work, are they the best no, but they do have over 60% of the inkjet market. If you fail to inovate, you are toast in today's economy, just look some of the former high fliers, Digital, Compaq, Gateway and soon to be Dell added to the list.
