Disagree! If this is really a 3D it is news, because it's an additional model in Canon's dSLR line between the 1DII and the 10D. The price would be higher than the 10D and the features/performance would be better. Canon would be considering this a back-up body for professionals.

I'm still slightly confused. A 3D would be better than a 10D but a 20D would be lower than a 10D and higher than the 300D? Where would a 32C fit in?

You really think they are going to upgrade the 1Ds a month or two from now? I'm not sure.... their fabs are already hard at work producing bodies and electronics for the Mark II. I'm thinking that they are making the 1Ds scarce, so that there might be some pent up demand for it after the initial run of Mark II's is delivered.

Is this for real??

I think I found my new camera.

Edit: NVM I just read "all speculation" Damn you!

I just went to Imagine USA yesterday too and totally forgot to ask all these questions, I got too caught up playing with a 1Ds and 85 1.2 and before you know it the place is closing and we are getting thrown out.

Be careful playing with stuff like that. You may end up leaving with both items, and blow a big hole in your bank account/credit rating.

chassis plus huppé = something like "more structured frame..." perhaps it will be metal instead of plastic.

I've seen the word used other times in the magazine and I think it just means fancier, more feature-rich.

It's going to be an interesting fall.

Hello,

Actually, I did have a look at "article" in the last issue of Chasseur d'Image. Well, in fact it is just a footnote article, with three lines about each camera that may be released at photokina. Really, we cannot learn anything from the couple of words about the "3D". As far as I understand it, the name is not for sure (nor the positioning of the camera in the canon line up: I know that, for many of you, the 3D really means a digital equivalent of the EOS-3, with wonderful specs, closed to the mkII) and there is not even one spec item with a precise figure. We just have to wait more

Salut Cédric. Je ne sais pas si je vais l'acheter : l'été, j'ai plus de temps pour faire des photos, donc j'ai moins le temps de lire

I can't believe I'm actually adding to this baseless speculation, but here I go:
The only current plastic dslr in the Canon line-up is the Digital Rebel. The 10D is all metal.

doesn't the 10D just have a metal "skeleton"? think theres alot of plastics hidden in there compared to the other (more expensive) models.

As a word of warning, though you are likely already aware of this, it's generally the safest policy when publishing anything to reference your sources, especially when you are pasting the text in word for word.

Just a word of caution. Incidentally, to my knowledge, the main differences between the construction of the 1-series and the 10D are the weather seals, and the fact that the body panels on the venerable 1-series are made from a thicker gauge of metal.

Arka - Don't worry about CanonShooter88, he tends to cut and paste from Google: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/116071

newli - It looks like pretty much the whole 10D is made of metal (image from DP review, don't know how to keep it from in-lining the image): http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos10d/Images/NewFeatures/magnesium-alloy-chassis.jpg
I think the D30 and D60 had metal skeletons with plastic bodies tho'.

CanonShooter88 - You continue to damage your very new, already very poor reputation. You're the first consistent poster of this type I've come across on this board. Oh well, I guess it was bound to happen.

Lots of information here. Lots of laughs too. Thanks guys. And cmon, canonshooter88 is a "GENIUS" look at his AIM name-- you can't have a name like that and NOT be a genius.

BTW, for the count-- third thread which has caused me to soil myself in public!

It's all wonderful speculation but there is an enormous price gap between the 10D and the 1DMKII. That would be a likely model gap to fill before introducing any new models (not including a 1Ds upgrade) and doing something based on the 1DMKII would make financial sense as they did with the 300D based on the 10D.

Would it really make sense? I don't have hard numbers here, but I wonder how the 300D at $1000 or less affected 10D sales?

We are talking about two very different markets here. The 10D was originally designed to bring digital shooters into the EOS system. The 300D has now supplanted the 10D as the entry point, as it is cheaper than the 10D. The 10D now prices out as a modest upgrade over the 300D. But once you are above the 10D level, the market shrinks dramatically. You are now into a realm where you are mostly dealing with working photographers, well-heeled amateurs, and well-heeled gearheads who read forums like this one. At this time, the entry point into that market (if you are buying a new Canon camera) is the Mark II, at $4500. As it is, Canon can't appear to keep up with demand for the Mark II at that price. If they were to now introduce the 1D 'lite' that everyone on these forums is so anxiously hoping for, the 1D Mark II, by necessity, will fall in price as demand shifts to the new 3D at whatever price point it comes out at (Let's say $2500). So, Canon is losing whatever percentage of the $2000 difference they take in as profit. Do you think that this loss on a very high-margin 1-series camera could be made up by sales of the lower margin 3D? I am not sure... I think people who surf these forums are a minority; most people will be more than content with 10D's, until they read these forums, and are told by the powers that be that their cameras are actually 'toys' or 'prosumer' machines that are not suited to pro use. Others may actually find that their needs exceed the limitations of the 10D level, and those people are a pretty small fraction in comparison to the entry level market. Those that do upgrade have only one choice. And even if only one of every three desirous 10D owners upgrade to the 1D Mark II, the margins will probably still be better than if they were selling 3 times as many 3Ds.

That's my story anyway. Of course, if a 3D does come out, I will be more than happy to wolf down my slice of humble pie.

I think he's referring to consistent plagiarism. I was not aware you had done this before, but I would urge you to take care in what you post. It might be an honest mistake, but you can't continue to post things as your own words when they are not. Best to be careful and cite your sources, instead of trying to appear that you know more than you do. With the many professionals that frequent this fine forum, there's always someone here who knows a heck of a lot more than you, so you should try to approach posting with that attitude in mind. Honesty and humility will get you very far, as the people here are all very giving and courteous.

Further, I don't see how being a computer genius has any bearing on this matter. I'm happy your classmates think so highly of you, but we can only know you by what you post, and consistently plagiarizing off the internet is not a great way to make a good impression.

EXACTLY my point. You are unaware that i've done this before.... - maybe it's because...uhm...oh....I DIDN'T! I often use big words so maybe it sounds like i did plagiarize but didn't.
