These photos were taken during Dr. Patricia Brown-Berry's workshop on Southwestern Desert Bats at the Desert Studies Center located at Zzyzx, California. At night, bat biologists caught bats in mist nets, checked them for condition, measured them, fed them insects, gave them water, and released them back into the night. (October 2012.)
4. Not at all restricted to aerial locomotion, pallid bats are also agile runners and climbers. After being released onto a tree trunk, this pallid bat ran up the trunk like a squirrel. After hiding a few moments in a dense tangle of branches, it launched itself into the night. http://cubit.smugmug.com/Other/Bat-Course/i-FfzLCbZ/0/XL/DSC0472JohnCubit-XL.jpg
