I was Chief Scientist on more than a dozen major scientific sea trials during my 35 year career*. Every critical item had at least one identical backup. That increased the cost of performing each trial significantly. OTOH, the cost of not performing during a seal trial (or during a 'shoot') is far greater. The fact that backups had to be used on more than one trial simply justifies the additional the expense. Same for photomatography.
Accurate and precisely stated. (Though I have a doubt about the last sentence. Is that kinda like ejumacation?)

IOW, if you can tolerate a failure, then you don't need a backup. If you can't tolerate a failure, then you need a backup. If you can't tolerate the concept that expensive devices can fail, then you're in a different situation - out of luck.

The camera was broke. It acted the same way with all of my lenses. The new one is perfect.

Why would a different camera do the same thing? The other camera did not function correctly.
The new 5D Mark 3 I have is perfect. Works without fail with all of my lenses. Like it should. The reason the other camera did not operate correctly is because it was broken. The new one is not broken. Thus....it works perfectly in every situation.
