To tell you the truth it crossed my mind! But I could not believe that this kit lens can produce such a result. Is it a single shot or a stack?
This was a single shot edited in LR5. The lens has a lot of bang for the buck. most of the quirks can be fixed in edit. the corners are not super sharp. but Its a light lens I like to carry if hiking.
24-85mm VR is a great lens, at just 1 pound hanging on the D600 body, it was a no brainer to carry it on a 200 mile hike this summer - 6 image stitch, I think:
and here a feeble attempt to shoot stars with the 24-85mm VR, using a few rocks as tripod. 30 sec exposure at ISO 400 I think, which wasn't enough. A 24mm f/1.4 would have been nice to have that day, but $$$$ and weight means I would have never carried it there anyway. lines of light along the mountain are hikers who got up before 3am to climb Mt. Whitney. I just got up that early because I had to go pee
