I agree with those that say the biggest benefit to me personally, are the comments that everyone provides. We know how subjective photography is. I've learned more about my own photography from the comments I received.
That being said, this doesn't mean we can't benefit from the like button. It need not be all one way or another. Consider this:
1) Hitting a like button on an image is optional; you can still comment on the image.
2) However, if you hit a like button, you must also make a comment on the image.
This keeps the constructive dialog on posted images from turning into a facebook-like "like" and I like that!
I would like to see a forum where only images can be posted, with no comments allowed and EXIF must be stripped from all images. Let everyone guess what gear was used to take the photos.
