I think a like button on each photo would be cool. Then you could 'like' your favorites from a set. Fred could just put that on photos uploaded with his upload feature, so it would be easy enough to code in. I try to post when I really like a photo, but I know there are a lot of them that I miss making mention of, because I'm short on time or whatever. I'd like a like.
Isn't posting to show your work and seek approval/disapproval/comments what the My Gallery feature is for IMO a "Like" feature would belong there rather than in the discussion forums. In general images posted in discussion forums give examples and/or add material to a discussion (with the exceptions of "Critique" and "Buy and Sell" which have other purposes entirely.)
Hi Bif, and Thanks! Strange - sometime in the last few weeks the number of Galleries has dropped from over 500 to about 120. So you have a point - not many use the feature.
I believe you're correct.
I'm not against a like system as long as it's not connected with FB, I'm more afraid that people here will get lazy like in the theme forums, 100 views and no comments, I stopped frequenting them because of that.
I was just thinking a slideshow button next to our profile button would be nice, Just add the links to your pictures(hosted here or elsewhere) 25? and clicking the button brings up a full screen slideshow.

Like Mr. Lightshow, I thought it was gonna be gay and inspire laziness. But I actually found it to be rather cool!
^^^ Nonsense comment of the day ^^^
What do a button, being gay, and laziness have to do with one another
As to the OP: I'm not sure what utility a simple like button serves, except to quantify validation or support-- and enrage arguments. Imagine a like button in this thread...
But-- and this is probably beyond the work-load-desire of the forum management/coders-- I could see great utility in a system for rating images. That way the subjective language of "good job" and "nice composition" could be transformed into something like a 0-10 scale on a few components, say: composition, tone, subject, overall.

I presume "being gay" is here used as a synonym of "to suck"? modern language
Anyway, I vote for adding a button of a kind, also for the posts. I can imagine a situation where I want to go through a whole thread of 300 pages. It would be handy if I could filter through by selecting certain comments or pictures. It is just that some of the picture threads contain invaluable tips regarding things like post-processing and composition. Hard to find them otherwise.

I'm not sure I can see the utility of that. Those rating components are all subjective so I'd much prefer to get the comments and critique of 5 people than 0-10 ratings from 100 anonymous people.
I could see utility for a Reddit-like upvote/downvote system for individual posts like Edgar suggests, but I'm not sure if it will really be suitable for this forum.

How about a button that pre-selects for particular political, religious, or sexual leanings? It could be an awesome "super-ignore" button, but not as mean-spirited as hiding or unfriending. ;D
