I'd be surprised of that doesn't chew through batteries.

If this came in at 1400-1500, it would be fair. You get a new FF body at a decent price, even if its important features are a bit less than impressive. But if this camera is really going to carry the presumed price tag, well, wow. When the D600's specs were all but confirmed before announcement, the price was rumored consistently as around $1500. I thought, 'heck yeah, I'm going to get this thing for sure, it is a no brainer.' They were wrong of course on the price. The fact that these two cameras may share a price anywhere close to each other is mind boggling to me. Who on earth wants a 5DII mkII for $2K?

i guess this is what happens when you don't have the trump card: sensor technology
nikon can create a range of cameras that sell based on a handful of specs, one of which being incredible sensor technology. so you can offer an excellent sensor at $2000 and a phenominal one at $3000, and provide both users with decent auto focus, etc.
canon basically have to create their range of cameras based on every other stupid feature in the camera since they dont have the "wow" sensors. so you end up having to decide things like "uh, do i need more than one cross type AF point? do i need more than one card slot? is it worth paying 30% more for a body that gives me these features without any real benefit in image quality?"...Show more →
As far I could find out for now Nikons D600 does not have the "wow" sensor, too.

The thing is that the target audiance would much prefer gps + wi-fi over better AF. Or at least that what Canons marketing figured out. This has Prosumer witten All over it and should generate Big sales like the D600.
If you're talking about the target audience I think you are, they would also prefer pop up flash. So the question they'd be facing in the shop is "Do I pay extra for flashgun that I have to carry around or do I pay extra for a tiny WiFi dongle?". Considering all the extra features D600 has over the 6D, how would you answer that question?

The only positive is that GPS might now become the norm in camera bodies. So hopefully the 7D Mark II has GPS built in. That would be nice.
Just give me a 7D with less noise, slightly higher MP, and GPS and I will be happy.

Good point, and for the record I dont think Canon made All the rights decisions on this one.

You're comparing a 2012 camera with a 2005 camera.
Even so the old 5dc can shoot 1/8000 and comes with a joystick!
And why not compare it to a camera that is 7 years old (less, considering the end of its production run) and still currently hailed as fine imaging machine? I think that give a little proper perspective on what the 6D has to offer in comparison to a camera I was using less than a year ago for paying assignments.
On the other two points: I don't care for or like the joystick, and I almost never have opportunity to use the 1/8000 shutter speed.
On the other hand, I shoot at ISO 100 a lot with time exposures, and I'm sure the 6D will kill the 5D's noise. And I shoot a lot at mid-ISO, but can't get really clean files much above 1000 on the 5D -- the 6D with current sensor tech stand to allow 3200 with ease.
I could go on listing these benefits, and they apply to a lesser, but significant extent, to the 1Ds2 vs. 6D. Things get closer on a 5D2 vs. 6D comparison (6D IQ based on stats/estimates and the other new models), but I don't feel the hate directed at this new model. I see that it as far more pluses than minuses when compared to strong models of the past few years. Certainly everyone is welcome to their opinion.

Bug me that the wifi/gps was not included in the 5DIII and is on this.. i have to have that giant lump on the top of my camera and keep AA's handy while they get it all built in.
this is obviously squarely targeted at the 'pro-consumer' who doesnt know Why they need a FF just that its what all their photo friends have...

From my perspective, someone who uses old manual lenses on a second hand 40D, this looks like a better camera than the 5D iii, since it has interchangeable screens. I will still just go with a used 5Dc when I get a little more money, since for wed publishing and 8x12 printing 12 mp is more than I need. Since this is lighter and has some form of weather-sealing it's tempting. Not to mention better iso. Flippy LCD screen, and I'd buy one in a minute.

It sounds like it sends liveview in stills mode over.
Hmm i wonder if they will offer, in the future, an option for it to work with a color profile so you could see in realtime, liveview with true calibrated colors, now that would be nice.

I certainly don't hate the 6D, I really just don't understand the point of it.
If Canon really wanted to make a full frame 60D why not give it a pop-up flash?
If Canon really wanted to make a full frame 7D why not give it a pop-up flash, more FPS and a decent focusing system?
Maybe it was in the pipeline before they knew about the D600 and it was too soon to change anything.

Ha-ha! Yes, losing that very important 1/3 EV! Even 1/250, nice as it is, is not significantly higher for something like blasting daylight flash-fill.
Jerry Stillfingerz -- Thanks for bringing up the WiFi and app. Over the last few years, I looked into an hot shoe monitor (too expensive and too delicate), and bought an EyeFi card (plus a Droid Bionic and Kindle Fire), only to find the EyeFi way to slow to use as monitor for either device. I'd like an external WiFi monitor especially when I'm out taking twilight time exposure shots -- great to see some bigger detail than the camera LCD, or to review while the next shot is being taken! I like this feature, and after reading the DPR preview, I'm more interested in the potential for this unit.
Maybe I have low expectations! When I compare this 6D to the original 5D when I bought it, the 6D has much more to offer in terms of quality, LCD, controls, sealing, sensor cleaning, and overall versatility. And I paid $3200 for the 5D! It worked great for what it was, but how can this 6D not be seen as a massive upgrade in comparison? I'm only now about to sell the 5D. I suppose because I am getting by with outdated gear like the 5D2 and 1Ds2, that my expectations aren't so much in the realm of fantasy as some.
And like a few posters here, I dabble in the Alt lens user category, and that definitely leaves Nikon out of the picture (except for its nice AIS lenses).
EOS20 -- Thanks for the size comparison link. I see the 6D is very slightly bigger than my 60D, which I find very usable with the battery grip. So the ergonomics are there for me. But I'm still leaning toward a 5D3, or a later high MP/DR model. Still, the 6D is interesting to consider. ...Show more →
Hi Gunzorro, if the 6D android app can work on my 4+" galaxy it will do the same on a nexus 7 tablet, now you're talking larger screen like the hotshoe mounted/type monitors
The interchangeable focusing screens are a biggie for me as I have a rather large collection of FD manual glass...a set of macros, 50-200, and a bellows that could prove interesting, I've Ed Mika's .5mm adapter and it works great n my crop bodies n EOS3 film bodies.
And less weight is a nice to have...waiting for reviews of it's IQ

So I just bought a 7D yesterday... hm... I got it from Best Buy but I have 60 day return and 60 day price match w/ being a Silver member. Also, I either can sell the kit 18-135 lens or sell my 17-50 tamron, I don't need both. So in the end it will only cost me $1300.
Not sure what to do!! Right now planning on keeping the 7D. I guess?

Depends if you yearn for or need full frame. The 7D didn't become a bad camera overnight.

I wonder what the marketing gurus at Canon are thinking? Poor auto-focus, less than 100% view finder, no built-in flash and I don't really need a GPS function.
The Nikon D600 should eat it alive in sales. You can buy a D600 and the awesome 14-24 f2.8 for about 4K, just $500. more than a new 5Dmk3.
The upside to the 6D is it makes the 7D look like an even better camera! That's the end of my Canon rant!
