Pix,

We're in 1,000% agreement that *if* that camera is real, the specs say it's a "crapulent" (aka a POS to me), but why do you suggest a Nikon fanboi?

It's only a rumor, but a Nikon fanboi gains nothing by this and I actually think those might be close to real (a few changes here and there). If Canon *does* release an entry level FF body, it *will* be "crapulent", or crippled, and expensive for what it is. Canon doesn't give up product segmentation willingly or easily as we all know.

The market is moving to FF (surprisingly slowly) but it's unstoppable. So what do you think they might do?

Makes me glad I just bought a super clean 1DsMkII from the Buy and Sell board instead of waiting if true!

The images leaked yesterday are telling me that the 6D is for real.

So, we can only hope that these truly crapulent (indeed!) specs are fake.
Otherwise, the 6D will be a major letdown.

Agree. But look at the the D600:
It does have lower specs compared to the D800 but it's is no way crippled.

In comparison, 11 AF points on a 2012 body that is rumored to be $2K is ... crapulent. Big time!

So, hopefully these leaked specs are fake .

OTOH, if it turns out that the 6D has the 5DIII sensor, the 7D AF system, and can do 5fps, it would be excellent - if priced at $2K.

Canon are running, less for more on their 5D3 and it looks like they're carrying it on with this 6D. I wonder how much longer they think they can get away with it, especially with Sony joining Nikon in setting what certain features should be costing?

I can not imagine, well I can but would hope not, that they would release a current camera with only 11 focus points and in a narrow area of the image area. If so, it would be an entry level FF that should cost around 1200 or less.

You know... If you had only read the rest of my post, you could've saved yourself the trouble of writing the first three sentences.

That said, I do expect it to have more than a single cross type AF point. It's about as modern as a live rear axle on a car. No wait...

Define crippled though. Sure the D600 has 39 AF points, but how many are actually cross type? 9 points. One can argue that the rest of the non cross type AF point are only there to pad the specs. That means at the very minimum, this rumoured 6D should have the T4i 9 cross type AF and I think it will. Can't have a new FF camera with AF system worse than its entry level APS-C.

The D600 also has SD card only storage, max 1/4000s shutter and Flash X sync speed of 1/200s. Pretty much on par with the rumoured 6D except for the slightly slower x sync speed at 1/180.

So yeah, what's crippled?

I don't believe the "leaked" images and specs are real. The image looks like a 5D2/3 with a 6 badly dropped onto it in Photoshop. In relation to the specs, no way an entry level body would come with Wifi and GPS built in.

Move along, nothing to see here. Yet.

If the product comes out and it sells Canon make a killing......if it doesn't sell then the price drops until it seems value for money.

Remember all the fuss about the G1X price?......it is now a third cheaper in the UK (although some retailers still expect the original release price!!).

Same with the 5D3......not quite a third cheaper...but by Christmas?

Personally...I wonder how long it can be before the constant production of new cameras by what seems to be dozens of companies (exaggeration here) floods the market and leads to a collapse in prices.....or do middle aged / retired affluent men just keep buying and hoarding?

Indubitably, you are not the market for the camera. Or rather, the non-camera, because this is just a rumour.

There is always so much handwringing about prices and it is about 99.7% wasted keystrokes.

So many people thought that the 5D Mark III prices were ridiculously high and that the camera would not sell and that the price would quickly plummet. Not so. Canon has sold high volumes (for DSLRs) of that camera. For example, my local shop got such a large shipment of 5D3s that they made a pyramid of the boxes. They all sold quickly.

"There is always so much handwringing about prices and it is about 99.7% wasted keystrokes."

Well, one thing I have learned is to wait before buying. Here in the UK the 5D3 came in at £3000, now its £2684. With the D600 coming in at £1995 I suspect there will be continued downward pressure on the 5D3.

Over in the US seems you've got some really low prices on the 5D3:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1149090

Unless my maths is screwy thats around £1600!!! If that isn't plummeting, I don't know what is! If you are American buy two!

As far a I'm concerned the 7D AF should be the entry level AF, even on Rebels. I just am gobsmacked that they would persist with the crappy 11 pt AF, which is even worse on FF as it means huge gaps between AF points and tiny coverage of the frame.

However, I guess they think most people won't care about the AF but will be impressed with the built-in WiFi and GPS. Other specs seem inferior to D600, but we need to see full specs to compare them properly. I can see price being easily as much as D600 to justify the WiFi and GPS.

I shouldn't care as I already have the 5D III and to me that's entry level FF, so would never consider anything less now I have experienced the new AF, but this 6D seems a strange concoction of good and bad features. I think the inclusion of a 7D-like AF would have dropped complaints 75%

We haven't seen the fine detail specs yet, so things like 100% VF which the D600 has will surely be absent given the 5D III has that and it's usually a high end feature and how will shutter lag, mirror blackout, burst size, build (sealing, body, shutter life) for example all compare? Lot's of areas Canon could cheap out on or surprise us. Maybe the X-sync and AF are the only truly crap features?

I'm gobsmacked by the number of posters here that interpret a CR1 on canonrumors as a press release from Canon.

Seriously, even a CR2 on CR only has a 10% accuracy rate. CR1's are fantasy 99.9% of the time....

Really? I'd have to disagree, a $750 price reduction in 6 months speaks for itself. The camera has been selling like shit compared to past body releases. This has to be one of the quickest depreciating body they've ever released....

It's not a $750 price reduction. B&H price is $3464 today. You might get spot sales here and there with large reductions, but the B&H price is pretty much the standard by which the industry goes, because they sell large volumes. If they felt that the spot sales and second-rate retailers were providing any real depreciating price pressure, B&H would adjust their price very quickly. B&H are not stupid.
