@douglas: Now that I see the step down filter, it does look quite appealing. Very compact. I only asked about the Sony hood as it's arrived with one, so could make use of it. But given the size, I'll likely get a step down ring too. Strangely, the Sony hood rotates a little (loose) when attached, which I didn't expect.
@Tariq: Thanks for the cameraleather link !! I've been searching for weeks for something similar, I've sent them an email now.
So far my conclusions are:
1) It seems to work / not be faulty.
2) I'm undecided on the grip. As I thought, it wasn't going to be a huge issue as it's very similar to my other camera in size and weight. My thumb seems to naturally rest across the screen, so I may look at a thumb grip of sorts. But still, it may not be entirely uncomfortable using the thumb space on the far left due to the weight of the camera - we will have to see when I actually put it into use.
3) It's feeling pretty unaccomplished at the moment due to having no finder. I've got a cheap Russian one on the way though to play with. Manual mode with auto-iso + manual focus seems intuitive and reasonably quick as well, probably not much slower than fiddling with the RF on my other camera. So I'm optimistic on that front.
4) The AF is much louder than I expected, strange noise! I imagine that disappears with background though.
5) They should definitely implement a 'memory MF point' when turned on/off. ISO50 should also be available in auto-ISO. There appear to be 3 little plug holes on the shoe - I wonder why these haven't been utilized for some sort of spring-release for accessories (eg EVF, OVF), like you get with flashes. It would certainly stop them falling out.
6) Am I right in thinking the AF tries to work with the aperture stopped down? I would have thought focusing wide open would be more efficient, but I could be wrong on both accounts.
