What about warranty on these Amazon Warehouse deals?

I'm not totally sure, so I filled out the registration on Sony's website, and I'm just hoping for the best.

I'll also mention that the inexpensive hood on Amazon, the one labeled as being from RainbowImaging, is well made with a nice finish and smooth threads. The one I received does not have any markings on it except for "49mm" (the one pictured shows a "Leica" marking). It's like a whopping $7.69! It's not a bayonet version though, as is the original Sony hood and the JJC copy.

I sometimes use the hood with the always on B+W 49mm Clear UV Haze with Multi-Resistant Coating (010M) F-Pro. There is also a Fotodiox "Pro" rectangular bayonet hood sold for the RX1 for around $50 which I just tried as well. It mounts nice and secure but frankly, I found the quality of the finish (paint evenness and smoothness of edges) to be lower than the cheap circular one above, so I'm returning it.

Yeah, I also bought a B+W filter and that Fotodiox square hood. I don't see any glaring finish issues on my hood, so maybe you got a bad one, or maybe I haven't looked closely enough. Either way, I plan on shooting hoodless most of the time, and the hood is for a specific use that I have in mind where I can't use a slotted hood, so I'm keeping the square one.

I think I must have gotten a slightly flawed one. I do like the shape of it (in a sort of hasselblad way, right?), as well as the bayonet fitting.

Yeah, I wouldn't call mine A+ quality or anything, but it isn't bad enough for me to notice. The hood is very Hasselblad-y. More so than the entire Lunar camera.

I really don't get why the other round hoods are vented. All of them are so light that there would be no real difference in weight so I guess it's just a "mock" rangefinder-like look.

Lunar..argh! I don't know if Hasselblad will be able to come back from that blunder. First they get rid of the square, severe their historical tie with Zeiss and then culminate the decimation of their brand by simply putting another body covering on an inexpensive mirrorless camera...and then calling it LUNAR. I guess they are marketing to the insane these days.

Does the hood allow attaching the lens cap to the camera while the hood is on? I used to have the X100, and I was always annoyed that I had to take the hood off to put the lens cap on. It's so annoying. You really want to just take the camera out of the bag and start shooting.

My fotodiox square hood does. I don't know about the official Sony hood.

Really good to know. Thanks.

Hmm... Just checked the final pricing. With CA taxes, the price does come out to be on par with what you see on FM. If you're not in CA or a state that Amazon collects taxes on, the prices on these Amazon Warehouse deals are simply better than what people are asking on FM, and without the Paypal fee. Quite amazing. Maybe I should start looking at Amazon Warehouse deals before FM from now on.

Yeah, I was surprised, too. I live in CA, so I had to pay tax, but having a return policy is great.

The RX1 lens cap will fit inside the inexpensive round hood I mentioned above but it is a bit fiddly. What also works perfectly on the outside of the round hood is a standard 58mm lens cap. That would protect the front of the lens but, because of the silly vent, dust could still enter.

For me, one of the advantages of using a good UV filter on front at all times is not having to deal with a lens cap, particularly since I use a small pouch/bag for the camera when it's not in actual use.

Not having to pay sales tax at the time of purchase was one of the reasons I took advantage of the Amazon Warehouse deal. I'm sure it will not be long before all states see internet tax.

Not having to

Yeah, despite knowing that a UV filter may occasional cause an issue, I also just leave one on and don't use a lens cap. I can always take off the filter in a situation where flare may be an issue, essentially making my UV filter my lens cap that I can shoot through when in a hurry.

I already sold my OMD but I did a comparison with the OMD and Panasonic 25 f/1.4 vs the RX1 in 50mm crop mode, below are results (VERY unscientific). The RX1 just kills the OMD in pretty much every area....as expected I guess

How interesting, after deciding to sleep on this decision for a night, I came back and Amazon raised the prices on their Warehouse deals across the board by over $200. Now that's ridiculous. Someone from Amazon must have read my comments. No sale, Amazon.

It's actually very common for Amazon to routinely adjust the price up and down. My guess is it's up for the weekend but will be back down next week. When I bought mine, I watched this sort of price fluctuation for many weeks before they finally dropped it to what I paid - $2270 or so. Since we now know it may go down to what Douglas paid, I bet it will see under $2200 sometime over the next few weeks for "Like New" condition. Just keep checking.

Yeah. I was really very happy with the OM-D until I used an RX1 for a while. I highly recommend that other satisfied OM-D users avoid this exercise. I ended up with an X100S though, couldn't justify the cost of the RX1.

Wow, I just got lucky with my RX1 price. I didn't realize that Amazon Warehouse fluctuated like that.

Price has come down $700 to $3400 here in Norway. Getting closer to sane levels.

I wanted to mention that I did a couple of quick color shift tests at f2 and infinity (the worst that it can get,) and there is definitely a difference in LR4 when shooting raw when you set Lens Comp.: Shading on or off. My results pretty much jive with imaging resources, although I couldn't quite get my lighting as even as their lighting. Interestingly, when turning on Shading comp, there is MUCH less vignetting than when turned off and adding the LR lens preset with vignetting cranked to +200. I plan on leaving lens shading off in-camera.

An SR5 rumour of a new 'RX FF':

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-also-a-new-rx-ff-coming-soon-in-late-august/

'There will be a new “variation” coming soon. Not a successor, but simply a new RX model!'

If true, very likely as the tech is sorted out very well in the '1', what will it be?
