Scott CPS membership is certainly worth it especially in gear purchases.
I don't believe you will qualify for a platinum card as you must prove pro status...that is you earn your living from photography..you must provide a business address,,cards, invoices etc..
I have the gold and could not get the platinum...for the above reason but even with gold have saved substantially over non CPS purchasing rates on gear.
Also as mentioned the 5 series cameras do not qualify as pro gear and at this point I'm uncertain if the 7D does either...and if not this would limit your application...but then again it may..
So yes certainly go for it..and you'll get some goodies..my application took a few weeks only if I recall.
And finally congrats on the 600..I pick up my 400 next week and the 600 is next on my wish list.
cheers

CPS Canada is definitely worth it to me. Love the discounts and expedited service. Anything I have sent for service I had back inside of 5 days.

BTW, is there any swag this year for renewals? I renewed in July, but haven't seen anything. Just curious.

Yes there is but the renewal offerings are somewhat skinnier than initial signup..I think I got a golf shirt,,and a CPS jumpdrive..

The 5D series qualifies as "pro gear" for Platinum membership, but it is not eligible for CPS pricing.

The 7D qualifies for Gold membership only.

Hi Everyone.

I've considered CPS in the past but did not go that route because nowhere on Canon.ca does it mention discounts on equipment purchases. Lots mentioned about service discounts, short service turn arounds, etc but nothing about discounted purchases on new equipment. I too will be purchasing a new 600 II and 1DX in the coming months and am shopping around for the best deal. I'll buy from whoever offers the best deal in Canada or USA. Could someone please explain the discounts available and whether CPS bought in Canada will also be honored in the USA at retailers such as B+H, Adorama or even Amazon? Right now I am leaning towards Amazon.

I just had the new firmware update done on my 300/2.8 II in Mississauga by Canon Customer Service and had the lens back in four days without being a CPS member. I asked the customer service agent at Canon if CPS ofered discounts on new equipment purchases but she just gave me the card with the website address which unfortunately didn't say one way or the other.

Thanks all

Mark

Hi Mark,

Since May 2012, the CPS Canada price for the 1DX has been $5950 (before tax). That's what it was when I ordered it in May, and that's what I paid when it finally arrived two weeks ago. If you want to find out the CPS price for the 600 II, then just ask the manager at your favourite retail shop to look into it for you.

CPS Canada prices are not available through US suppliers. CPS Canada prices are the same all across the country, so it should be the same no matter who gets it for you.

Cheers, Jim

Well, that's supposed to be the case, but some stores don't always play by the rules... so like I said in an earlier post, it pays to shop around - even on CPS pricing.

My best quote for the 1DX at B+H right now is $6670 without any taxes. The 600 II is still a whopping $12999. I was told CPS does not factor in on equipment purchases either. I may check Amazon while we are south this winter as well.

Mark,

I'm slightly confused by your comment " CPS does not factor in on equipment purchases". If you're talking about CPS Canada (seeing as you're in Ontario), you're wrong. I paid the normal CPS Canada price of $5950 (before tax) for my 1DX. If you're talking about CPS USA, then you're probably right.

You will not get a CPS Canada price through B&H. You should be able to get it through Henry's, Vistek, or most other photo stores.

Jim, I am not so sure of that. I'd speak to Henry Posner about it.
If you pay in $ CDN and give them your CPS number, B&H might be able to make it happen.
If you have a Canadian address, then B&H treats that sale no different than Henry's would or Vistek. I'd definitely talk to CPS Canada as well, and confirm they would honour B&H CPS Canada Price Adjustment Voucher.

Peter, you do understand that the sole purpose of Canon Canada's CPS pricing is to get people to buy in Canada instead of the USA, don't you?

I don't know, Cliff....there are always special cases and exceptions if one is persistent enough. Just remember the reduced pricing for gears that the US military servicemen get. There is also a discount program for employees of Canadian government agencies, asnd also a seniors program, etc.

All of which have absolutely nothing to do with the Canon Canada CPS program...

But I agree, if you badger people enough, they might give you a discount, even if it's just to get you to leave them alone. Maybe Henry Posner will give you one of those "special" deals he often gives me...

Yes, it would seem that Posner has a soft spot for you...in a mensch way, that is.

In a written quote from B&H received yesterday, I was offered a small discount on a 1DX and two 600 EX-RTs but no discount at all on the 600 II lens. I was considering getting a CPS membership, either USA or Canadian, before making my purchase in hopes of getting a better price but was told "CPS does not pull into play whatsoever with Canon authorized dealers". I did not stipulate CPS Canada or USA but am led to believe neither CPS membership garners much in the way of discounts, at least at B&H. I'm ready to drop some significant money at whichever store will offer me the best deal. I'll shop around some more before making up my mind.

Since Canon USA owns Canon Canada as a subsidiary, I think B&H should be matching prices by Canon USA/Canada authorised dealers in Canada, such as Camera Canada from London, Ontario.

I have also heard of a major camera store who has been accepting offers even lower than the CPS price. So, yes, there are special deals to be found, just that one should be persistent and know where to look.

It's too bad you don't know the secret CPS handshake, or you could save a couple of thousand dollars off that price...

Cliff, you are not kidding. Remeber when B&H used to have "secret" discount codes for various Canon lenses and cameras ? OK, eventually, those discount codes stopped being widely available, yet I understand that they continued to be given by B&H to select groups of people on special occasions etc.
That is really a kind of a "secret CPS handshake", eh.
