as a global question: do u think the economy is doing better? there seems to be quite an onslaught of new lenses from zeiss, sch krez is making some new stuff, helios etc? these are all consumer goods..

Same here. The 12 and the 50 will likely end up in my bag. At least they gave me a year's notice to save up.
The 12 is really, really interesting. I probably can't justify another 50mm. I'll wait to see how the 32 compares to the Sony 35. If the Zeiss 32 is around the same size as the ZA24/1.8, I'll probably go for the Sony 35 for the smaller size + OSS, unless the Zeiss just blows it out of the water.

Will the lenses also be available with Micro 4/3-bajonet (MFT)?
We want to offer lenses of very high quality. The image quality of the system also hinges on sensor size. Therefore, we intend to concentrate initially on the biggest sensor size in this segment which is APS-C. It would be possible for us to make lenses for Micro 4/3-bajonet as well but we have not made a decision on that yet.
If current APS-C lenses were also used for the Micro 4/3-bajonet, we wouldn’t be able to achieve the best tradeoff between lens size (weight), and image quality.

The thing with the 12mm is that is to be telecentric for the NEX-7 AND Xpro1. I really hope it's good, it might be the last lens I buy in a while.
i wish it was a little longer. 18mm equiv is too wide for me. a 14mm or 15mm would have been more useful, but super ultra wide seems to be all the rage these days.
I'll wait for the review of that 12. Where is the report on the humongous Distagon 55? I guess they will bring it out later. The premium Zeiss line-up seems to be very interesting.

Agreed. My Sigma 19 is a little long, and this new Zeiss is a little short for what I normally like in a wide angle, but I'm not complaining. I'm glad to see Zeiss working on these lenses.

I thought so too but once i started using my Olympus M.zuiko 9-18mm a lot, I noticed I use it at its widest setting most of the time.
Only the X-mount gets a manual aperture ring? That's bull$&!*. Not that I'm interested in any of these focal lengths and the fact that they're AF, a likely FBW, kills my interest anyway, but on principal... that's bull$&!*.
Zeiss isn't really to blame, I suppose. To the Minolta (and Canon) designers who decided their lenses didn't need manual aperture controls, I hope you all get incurable hangnails on at least one pinky finger.
