The biogon 25/2.8 is the best WA ever known in the history of human kind. There is no way I would replace it.

My bad, poor choice of words: I should have said "supplement" rather than "replace". I was thinking that a Distagon 25mm with better corner performance would give me a ~35mm equivalent that would work well on an NEX-7. (The E-mount Zeiss 24/1.8 is nice, particularly at close distances, but I prefer MF lenses.)

Nice. I'm sure it is probably better than the 135ZA, like the 25/2, but for me in body IS and AF are very welcome. But then, it's clearly not aimed at me... I'd happily buy manual Zeiss glass though, just for a smaller system.. speaking of which, I am intrigued by what the CSC Zeiss stuff is...

To be fair, if you get the ZF and swap out the mount for Alpha with an adapter chipped for 135/2, you'll still get in-body IS. No way to fake the AF, but that's what the big OVF on the a900 and M screen are for.

Personally, I couldn't be happier with the announcement. A well-corrected fast 135 with MF responsiveness and an aperture ring that should be as at home shooting stage shows as it is shooting highly detailed city/landscape panos sounds great to me. I haven't purchased a brand new lens in ten years, but am I seriously considering pre-ordering this bad boy as soon as B&H starts accepting them. I'll even deal with the Zeiss colors and bokeh if it performs as well as I'm hoping it will.

I am also curious about the CSC stuff, but if it's all AF and focus by wire, that will kill my interest pretty quickly.

those ZFs will focus the wrong way on your a900 though.

you adjust quickly but i always miss a few shots shortly after each time i put a reverse focuser on my camera.

I (mostly) solved that when I had the AIS 135/2 and ZF 50/1.4. I trained myself to never put a lens back in the bag without setting it to infinity. I remember much faster if there's only one way I can turn the ring. Fortunately I've kept up that habit.

good idea. it usually takes me more than one wrong direction attempt before i adjust, but that is bound to help.

Was really hoping that Zeiss was finally making AF lenses again for full frame 35mm.
Sad news....

Can someone better in English than I am explain whether the talk about a Zeiss camera is an actual rumor or just a wish?

Sounds like a wish to me.

One word answer: tripod.

Sorry. I'm still fumbling in the dark. Can you please elaborate?

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I think they meant "controlled" rather than deliberate. Would have been easier to say ...if you are a sports photographer and you buy this then you are a bloody idiot but somehow it doesnt seem like something Zeiss would say. Maybe I should apply as the Australian Marketing Manager and fix that.

The D800 and the zeiss I already have would be a ton of misfocus, I couldn't be that fast to fiddle that tiny bit longer for street with these new "...if you are a sports photographer and you buy this then you are a bloody idiot" lenses (hey it works!).

I'm really interested to see a studio portrait lens though, the D800 skin tones are stunning and I'm going to wait to see what something like an 85mm would look like in this new family of "...if you are a sports photographer and you buy this then you are a bloody idiot" lenses.

Wow, suggested retail price of €1600 for the 135APO.

Sounds like a bargain.

A bargain? Why?
Look at Canon for example... The 135/2 L is one of their best lenses IMHO and it's still a lot cheaper than this or their other fast L primes.

Heh, yeah, you're right. Perhaps 'bargain' was a bit strong.
Looking at the latest releases from Zeiss it does weight in at a relatively decent price and with it sporting the likes of APO (and I assume all the other usual optical suspects) I was expecting worse. Especially since they are developing for these new very high Mpx bodies now.

So... the new mirrorless system is for the hassleblad 'thing'? A Leica S2 rival, of sorts?

Meaning (3) in my copy of the Concise Oxford is "slow and unhurried". Literally, it means "with thought".

Yea but the PR department is no longer permitted to drink beer at work, its ...ssnǝz

Presently we are in negotiations with Julian Assange to take some promotional items with him to Sweden. Its a cunning plan because the materials are in fact printed in Cuban ...for the American market
