Well the Nikon 50mm AF-S F1.4 is a great lens, very sharp quickly but people still seem to buy lots of the ZF.2 50mm F1.4 partially because of the bokeh. And I'm sure the Zeiss name.

Oh, I hear ya, although, for whatever reason, Fuji has a little more boutique lens cred than Nikon, and the Zeiss is slower at f1.8, so this choice seems a little more difficult, to me. That being said, I guess many of us, including myself, will be interested in consistent looks across their prime range, perhaps.

Maybe they're hoping the difference between 48mm and 52mm is enough.
It doesn't sound like much, but surprisingly I have found that I prefer using my Pentax 31 to my CV 35/1.2 (pretty close in size if not weight) on my NEX 7 because of the FOV difference.

I can see the case for consistency and I agree with you about boutique cred.
Maybe I'm alone here but I actually like a variety of looks in my lenses. It's the primary reason I've been exploring other brands instead of just running through the Zeiss line up new and legacy.
The performance would have to be as uncompromising as the size (and most probably price) to make this one worthwhile. A fifty-ish 1.4 lens which is stellar wide open, even into the corners, would be a first and a great a great way to further strengthen Zeiss' brand in terms of image quality.

I'm shooting with the 55 f1.4 at Paris Fashion Week and let me tell you it's AMAZING!
I have not had any time to really post as my life is crazy right now but some very hot images are coming! The lens draws like magic. Very much like the 35mm f/1.4 but NO CA EVER!
