I just picked up mine and it seems pretty sweet! I like how it extends as I zoom in (rather than the other way around). Still, it will have to do a lot more than that to earn it's keep. Will put her through the paces ASAP and report back.

are they a camera maker or Prada
They tried to Prada the low end consumers a long time ago ;-) From 75-300 Mk3 description:
Compact and lightweight 4x telephoto zoom lens ideal for shooting sports, portraits, and wildlife. The front part of the zoom ring now sports a silver ring for a luxury touch.

Are you referring to the zoom action of the first version? That zoom action, combined with the lenshood, is a really great design . It offers the most protection against flare of the lens. I would prefer that design rather than that on the new Mark II, which is basically the same as that on the 24-105mm IS.
Well according to FedEx, my 24-70mk2 will be here tomorrow, with a few hours to spare before I board the plane to Florida for the last Space Shuttle engagement

Only issue with that design Joshua is that you end up with a massive hood.

Stan, will your lens be shipping from a US location? No breeze, and hot and humid at the south end of the state today..

Sweet, I look forward to your stellar images and your review of the lens.
