I deal with a guy here in Australia who imports Canon & Nikon all grey. 5D3 delivered $2800, but warranty must go back to his supplier in Hong Kong
It appears that the lowest price of Canon equipment is usually came from Hong Kong. In Taiwan, I know one trusty camera shop is selling 5D3 at around $2800, but the quantity is very limited and they are imported from Hong Kong by some local trading companies. I guess $500 is 5D3's gross profit for a retail store. Big store like BH or Adorama may have much more profit margin.

If you're willing to blow $3k ona shady dealer, why not pony up a few hundred more and just buy it with confidence fromba reputable authorized dealer? I've never understood the people who end up getting scammed for trying to save a few bucks. Might as well jsut have gone the safe route...

500 bucks is 1/7 of a 3500 camera. I would not call that a few bucks.
I think what matters is really whether it is a US version camera with warranty, which canon would repair if it goes wrong.

I said this before and it seemed to go largely ignored... unless 'getitdigital' goes by some other corporate name, they are NOT on Canon USA's list of authorized dealers that was last updated July 2nd. (LINK)

thanks Omar, then I suppose the warranty they provided is from their own after sales service.

How exactly does someone NOT authorized by Canon USA obtain brand new cameras from Canon USA? I'm pretty sure that's not possible...if it were, then I'd be a 'dealer' too and just buy everything direct from Canon at a discount.

I am just curious how does a non-dealer get so many (at least hundreds of) US stock. Looks quite weird to me.

What do you care how they sell at that price? It is called marketing. They bought the camera with the kit lens, and are now re-selling it without the lens.
Ask them.
yeah since its an "L" lens you know they can get full retail,MSRP so they arnt losing any money maybe making 75-100 xtra over a kit.

It's not $ 500 lower. More like 200-300. The link say $ 3065. And of course it doesn't have warranty with Canon USA, when he is not a authorized dealer

I see stuff like that all the time on Amazon's used section, a company splits the kit lens off and sells the body cheap. I would say it's perfectly legit.

The 5DIII's in the states have gone back up in price to $3500 so it's $435 less. That's a massive discount (2good 2B true) on a Grey market item. The only way I'd ever buy Grey is from B+H because you can certainly count on future help from them. Even at a steep discount like this there's no way I'd roll the dice on a fleabay/unauthorized dealer combo. Their probably Chinese knock offs. Some of the fakes have become very sophisticated. Look at the "Apple" store in China.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we see a MKIII rebate after the prices went back up.

Of course it's legit. But you don't get any warranty from Canon USA. And do you think the e-bay seller will take it back and repair it for you if something is broken or bad the first year ?

Of course we will...we've all seen this song & dance before...price increase, followed by rebate! BTW, isn't Canon still running some of last fall's rebates?

Tooo Chez! I'm hoping to see a rebate that brings the cost to 3k or less.

I think this might be the crux of the matter. It occurred to me that maybe a place like B&H, who sells white box 24-105s but not the 5Ds that came with those lenses might be offing the cameras under another name.
In any case, below is a picture of the card that came with my camera from GetItDigital. I registered my camera with CanonUSA and they sent me an email confirming the registration of my USA 5D Mark III which I bought from GetItDigital. As I said in my original post, I got a USA camera from them, as advertised. Why is my testament incredible?
