I think it looks great. It's basically an aps-c compact camera with great flexibility.
I'm invested in m43 now though and for now that would seem to be the best mirrorless system by far. Interesting to see how much effort canon puts into this in the long run.

Missed opportunity on having a fixed LCD. Having a swivel screen on my Nex 5n really opens up a comfortable, shoot from the hip style of shooting. It'll be interesting to see a sensor comparison with this vs Sony's Nex series.

100 comments so far and everyone wants something different from Canon. Sure seems like a difficult proposition and I don't envy Canon. I think there are some promising signs and look forward to seeing how the system evolves.

This is targeted at the same users that buy 4/3 and Nex. They want something better than a P&S but don't want all the features of an SLR.
Close, they want something better than a P&S, they want good IQ, and ergonomics of a DSLR, but don't want the size of a DSLR.

I have an Oly E-P3 M4/3 and it's a kickin' point 'n shoot, tiny & light, near DSLR IQ but a long long ways from the ergonomics of a DSLR. The E-P3 has a lot more external controls than most cameras in its class, but the controls are tiny, involve lots of menu visits and a PITA to operate compared to my 7D/5D2. Plus, it lacks a VF and must suffering being held at arm's length unless you spring for an accessory VF. These types of cameras are a big fat compromise in terms of ergonomics but IQ is good enough I keep the camera in my messenger bag 24/7.

So looking at the 18-55mm zoom, I'm guessing it's gonna house an APS-C sensor.
The lack of pop up flash (unless that tiny round thing on the right hand side is a smartphone style LED flash, which I doubt), means it's not aimed at the casual market. This is rather puzzling as this type of camera should be aimed at the casual market. Perhaps this particular shot is showing the higher end model.
I wonder what that A+ mode is... Fully automatic green zone shooting?

People are really hungry for a cheaper m9/10... I just wonder what lenses they plan to run and if the total cost of the system is worth it when mixing and matching. Sure, I would like an m9 and a 35 or 50 summilux, but I don't want to sell my whole set of SLR lenses and body to do it. I would give up too much flexibibilty. I am shooting an M3 right now for my mirror less fun and I highly reccommend it!

After my initial disappointed faded I began to think about the future, by recalling on the not-so-distant past.
I vividly remember how upset I was when the first EF-S lens was released. I pored hail and brimstone on Canon for taking such a stupid route. However, for the past several years I am simply inlove with my three EF-S lenses (10-22, 17-55, 60). They offer superb IQ, BQ, AF and a host of other features. I really can't fault them. In fact, they are major reasons for me to stick with the APS-C format (the horrible AF in the 5D and 5D2 is the other).
I am very happy that Canon chose a big sensor. That means great IQ. Wonderful. In addition, I expect that in the future bigger and more feature rich models will be introduced. So folks, this is only the beginning.

A+ mode if I had to guess is probably something like Panasonic intelligent auto mode.
If it's lacking a pop up flash, I assumed they would just the Sony Nex way of just adding clip on flash. I think there's probably someway to power an small external flash through the hot shoe.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Sony's NEX-7 has a pop up flash no?
I just think it's an oversight not to include a pop up flash if Canon wants to target the casual market. Little things like a pop up flash and tilting LCD screen is a big deciding factor in the casual market, where stuff like vignetting, distortion and CA means very little, if at all.

Yes, the Sony Nex 7 has a pop up flash. The Nex F3 has one now too which well looks kinda like the one on the Nex 7. I also expect the Nex 5F when it's announced to have one as well. I'm pretty sure the majority of casual market has no idea what vignetting, distortion, and CA means. I was kind of expecting a tilting LCD screen as they have some among their G series point & shoot cameras and I think 650D/4Ti has one as well.

Theyre unlikely to put everything everyone will want into the first camera. However if the sensor is aps-c and they allow other lenses via a mount, it's the start of a really good camera system.
