I have a simple question: does the EF adaptor contain additional lens elements? If so, could this degrade IQ? Would there be an additional extension factor with this kind of adaptor?

Really nothing all that surprising here. Pretty much what I guessed several pages back except they went with the current APS-C sensor rather than the G1X I had guessed at.
Price is on the high side (you are surprised?) though not outrageously so given the lens inclusion. Adapter is huge, expensive, defeats the form factor though this is an issue with many compact camera adapters. Still, I acquired a GX1, 14-42, 20 f/1.7 and EVF for only $50 more than this basic kit. As for those who think MFT IQ isn't up to snuff, well I've printed at 13X19 and frankly you can't tell the difference between them and shots from a 1DsIII - this at normal ISO.
So ya, you can hang your EF lenses on it, but why would become an immediate question. No one knows, but I suspect the group think pod that passes as Canon corporate management decided the mirror less camera party was going on without them so they had to do something. Not wanting to endanger any other lines they stuck a 650D into a S100 box, removed most manual control, added a lens and called it "revolutionary."
While I really didn't believe Canon would do anything "revolutionary" it continues to amaze me that given their R&D capacity they don't seem to want to risk anything. Lots of unhappy engineers, I'll bet.
This "little" cam does have the one benefit of making Nikon's first entry look toy-like. Maybe that is all they wanted.
As I see it, this EOS M offers no compelling reason for full DSLR shooters to want to step down to it and not really enough reason to make high end cell users (iPhone, top line Android) add yet another piece of gear to carry around.
Oh well, it will at least be interesting to watch people rant and rave and see if very many of them really sell.

Seems my crystal ball was correct.
No EVF. No focus peaking (just hope it has at least magnification). No built-in flash (these things are not that useful for flash itself, but can be used for activating another flash). Slow AF. Not exactly great ergonomics (that movie button is serious WTF, like in NEX-7 or NX20 etc. is apparent that certain asian companies cant do anything else than "copy this"). Crappy old sensor (sure same is in 7D, but 7D has quite a bit better AA and CFA, this wont have..).
And costs almost 800 USD.
Good riddance Canon.. Mwhaahaha.
Certain Asian companies can't do anything else than "copy this"? Gimme a break... Canon isn't some Chinese knockoff company. What does Czech Rep. have anyway? Skoda? What do they do apart from make VW cars look even more boring? lol
As a 7D owner I'll have you know that it has probably the only sensor that has no noticeable banding when you push the shadow.
As for the EVF, what makes you think it won't come at all? It could be added later with a higher end or subsequent model.

Im not going that low to comment your country.
That movie button is in exact same spot on Sony NEX-7 (where it was first), Samsung NX20 (second) and now Canon EOS M. Noo, ofc they are not copying, they just independently all three of them invented exact same location. And most important is that its incredibly stupid placement.
7D bands like any other Canon. And as Yakim pointed out, it wont be 7D version of sensor but 650D (which is even worse, if thats possible).
For EVF you need ports, it doesnt have any suitable for that. And there wont be any later or higher end models anytime soon. Its very naive to think that Canon plans to sacrifice his 6xxDs for mirrorless. If there will be some EVF model, it will take ages.

The thing here is that it will be the lenses - not the body - that makes or breaks the EOS-M system. I went M43 for my mirrorless kit because you get to choose from both olympus and panasonic lenses... you get a really small size kit, with some gems like the pana 20 F/1.7 and the oly 45mm F/1.8 - with the lenses in the $400 price range - and optical distortion correction programmed right into each lens... with EOS-M all you've got is the hope that Canon will eventually release more lenses that can compete... the APS-C sensor means everything will be bigger... and will the video measure up to the GH2? While I applaude Canon's entry into the mirrorless market, I wonder if they will have much success, given what they are up against.....

I go to tons of venues where I am not allowed to bring in my 5D# or 1D4 and I am constantly wishing to be able to bring something small with me that would allow me to use a quality lens as well...i can see taking this camera with the kit lens or the 40 2.8 pancake or the 50 1.8 with me when i know my DSLR wont be permitted....if the camera functions well i will be all over it
Thanks - yes, no lens element. If the length of the adapter just accomodates for the difference between sensor plane and lens in DSLRs, then there souldn't be any difference and no extension factor.
