Don't want to appear negative, but who exactly is this camera aimed at?
Lots of different people! There is no "exactly" about it. Specialists will want a Canon 1DX or a Leica M9 or a 180 MPx digital back. For everyone else (and some of the specialists), this is a nice third camera or second camera or first camera. That's a big market.

I wish people would stop using that term. When you buy a car do you say they 'crippled' it by not including the best engine that they've ever made?
It's rather like buying a car without the windshield wipers. Yes, you can drive without most of the times but if it rains you need them. Oh, it's an option for an extra 1000 bucks? Yes, it's crippled

The "world owes me a living" crowd want every camera to do every thing at rock bottom prices. If it doesn't, then it is tarred and feathered as "crippled". They will never be satisfied. Sucks to be them.

Haha, no flash. I figured they'd cripple it somehow.

Yeah, crippled like a Leica M9 or Canon 1DX is crippled. Crippled like a Ferrari that can't carry a ton of gravel is crippled.
Folks, the camera is what it is. It is not "crippled", any more than a person born with one arm is crippled. My cousin was born with only one hand and that hand only has two or three fingers. He does fine woodworking on yachts.
Get over it and get on with it instead of spinning wheels wishing, wishing, wishing.

I'm not sure if everyone has picked up on it yet (I didn't see anyone mention it here), but this quote should end this thread for all those interested in a FF mirrorless "photographer's camera" from Canon...
"The EF-M mount is 58mm in diameter, with a flange distance of 18mm from the bayonet to the sensor. As the image above clearly shows it's matched specifically to the APS-C sensor size. So don't expect a future full frame EF-M mount camera - it's not going to happen." [emphasis mine]...

BTW - When I ran a poll a month ago about what people here wanted from a Canon mirrorless camera, a third wanted EF lens use at the expense of everything else. Canon delivered for a third (or more depending on how you interpret the results) of the respondents, so there should be some happy people.

I'm amazed the 18-55 is only 20g heavier than the pancake. I don't see how that's possible unless the pancake is mostly metal and the zoom is mostly plastic. They look similar construction. They actually look quite nice style wise.

This is what I wanted from the nex3 I bought in December. To bad the camera plus adapter is pushing $1000. May have to wait for october. Wonder how this will balance with a 35 1.4.

EF-M is a name only, Canon could still make a FF EVIL camera which has no need for an adapter. One day Sony or Nikon may go this way and push Canon to follow.

Almost the camera I want for travel and street photography. Snappy AF, compact and fast lens, and non-integrated flash... I hate integrated flash... bulky points of weakness. I had the original digital pen (e--p1) and sold it for one reason... no integrated viewfinder. I don't need an evf, I just need a window with frame lines.
I'll wait and hope the next version includes a window with frame lines otherwise it will be the Fuji X100 (or next iteration) for me.
I think it's a good first effort and that canon will be successful. For those complaining about the sensor... I like the sensor in my 7D so much that I just bought another one to go with my 5D2 and chose to pass on the 5D3.
I'm looking forward to seeing what some creative photographers will do with the EF-M
cheers,
bruce

Not going to work with a range of interchangeable focal length lenses. You can't have everything. If a single fixed focal length is just right for you, then get the X-100 already.

Well, my crystal ball says it'll have an EVF mounted on the hotshoe and a pretty good sensor. Let's see whose crystal ball is more accurate.
Seems my crystal ball was correct.
No EVF. No focus peaking (just hope it has at least magnification). No built-in flash (these things are not that useful for flash itself, but can be used for activating another flash). Slow AF. Not exactly great ergonomics (that movie button is serious WTF, like in NEX-7 or NX20 etc. is apparent that certain asian companies cant do anything else than "copy this"). Crappy old sensor (sure same is in 7D, but 7D has quite a bit better AA and CFA, this wont have..).
