I want the Nocticron!

But as for DOF... well yes and no.

If I take my Nikon 50mm F1.2 lens on a 36x24mm sensor body and set the aperture to F1.2 and focus distance to 1m and shoot a subject at 1m it will have a certain DOF.
If I take the same lens, with the same settings, from the same distance but with a m43 sensor (18x13,5mm) and shoot the same subject, the DOF will be completely equal.
The crop however will be significantly tighter which in practice, when shooting a portrait for example means you either get a very tight crop and same DOF, or move back quite a bit and get a "normal" shot but with more DOF.

No matter what sensor or film I put behind the lens, even if I don't put anything behind it, it will always produce the same DOF.

If you move back you get more DOF of course; not less. I think there is less room for confusion if you speak in terms of deeper/shallower DOF. DOF stands for depth of field, after all.
Too many newbies are mistaking DOF for the amount of background blur.

OPS! Too tired to be writing about this stuff, of course I mean MORE DOF!

Corrected in the post now... thanks AhamB

How is the 63MP file compared to the 36 in the D800?

The Jpeg is really nice. Slightly more detail than the D800 but less dynamic range. Not a mode I'd use very often though as it creates some weird artifacts with motion. I still have not gotten the camera to spit out a RAW high res. It keeps giving me a jpeg even with RAW only selected.

<edit> got the raw working. Not a very sharp 63mp file that is for sure. Downsampling is the only way to get a sharp image. I can see why olympus decided to downsample to 40mp for their jpeg output.

If it's "somewhat close" to the IQ of the D800 I will be thrilled. We know that the next iteration of the High Res Mode will probably be hand-holdable at 1/60 second ... as it will be able to capture 8 frames in 1/60 second. This will be a huge leap forward in IQ for m43. Here's a shot that I took with the E-M5 II in High Res Mode. The first shot is a single image and the 2nd shot is a 3-exposure HDR image.

Nice image. I perfer the single exposure Bobby. There is more contrast in the scene and I prefer the colour of the sky to the HDR version.

I have to play around with the HDR mode a bit more. The in camera raw HDR it spits out does a nice job of keeping shadow noise to a minimum when you start to push them.

I have to agree with you ... the colors are not very natural on the HDR version, but that's mostly my fault i.e. poor HDR processing/editing. I do like the shadow detail better in the HDR version. Will try and redo this in Lightroom CC.

Reynisdrangar Beach near Vík (South Iceland). Thanks to IBIS hand-holding the Oly 40-150 PRO lens is very doable. This image was shot at 95mm (190mm equivalent) at 1/40 second, hand-held … and it’s tack-sharp!

Great shot Thomas! Love the clarity in those shots.

@ Bobby. Ya, the IBIS is amazing. I was taking shots at 1 second last night and getting sharp images. I was blown away. I found 1/8th second delay and Electronic first curtain and you can take some really slow shots while being braced.

I'm heading to Iceland in August. Any tips?

You are going to love Iceland. Definitely visit Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon (South-East Iceland) and the beach across the road from there. Check out my Iceland pictures - click on the individual photos for information on the name of the place:

I see that these forums don't do well with panos - at least not mine.
