If I take my Nikon 50mm F1.2 lens on a 36x24mm sensor body and set the aperture to F1.2 and focus distance to 1m and shoot a subject at 1m it will have a certain DOF.
If I take the same lens, with the same settings, from the same distance but with a m43 sensor (18x13,5mm) and shoot the same subject, the DOF will be completely equal.
The crop however will be significantly tighter which in practice, when shooting a portrait for example means you either get a very tight crop and same DOF, or move back quite a bit and get a \"normal\" shot but with less DOF.
No matter what sensor or film I put behind the lens, even if I don\'t put anything behind it, it will always produce the same DOF.
