E-M5 II in High Res Mode.

Bobby, this looks great. How useful are you finding the hi res mode?

That was the only time I used the E-M5 II which was my back-up camera. I've sold it as I find the E-M5 II to be a little too small. I have gotten too comfortable with the E-M1 which is the perfect size for me.

But with regards to your question, it is very useful if you are shooting landscapes where nothing moves - and there are not many situations when it's completely still and nothing moves. The next generation of the High Res mode will be more practical, as you will be able to shoot the 8 frames in 1/60 second instead of approx 1 second. We will probably see this in the E-M1 Mk II.

Yes I did, I'm still not sure about wether it was a good choice or not but I felt like messing things up a little bit...

Looking at the too again, while not as tired as I was yeasterday... I don't think it was a good choice to flip it

Here's the normal

Ps. I Really want a wide angle for the OM-D system now, miss the Sigma 10-20mm for Nikon DX.

Cool shot Diego

How are you enjoying the Em5 II? As the Em1 or better? Any real difference?

Actually I think it's more visually appealing (and surprising) flipped

Thanks Bobby! Saw it right before you posted it as well!
I've been waiting for it for quite some time but the price is steep

I wouldn't say it is more then I thought it would be, it's actually around the price I thought it would be but it still makes it hard to choose between that and the 40-150 and the PL 42,5 for my next purchase... or a new camera body... with these prices it's one or another, not both... or all, at least not to begin with. It will be interesting to see the performance. Judging from the weight of it I am guessing it contains a bunch of sweet glass

I am pretty sure it will be far superior to the Panasonic 7-14/4. To be fair, the Panasonic lens is pretty good when you are shooting with the sun behind you - it's very sharp from wide open - but I wasn't happy with the flare and purple blobs, so I sold it and was hoping to replace it with the Olympus version when it comes out. But I am now having second thoughts because of my Sony-Zeiss FE 16-35 ... which I have yet to use. I should maybe just start taking pictures of my cat!

Well they way Oly's have been lately I am quite sure it will be awesome, I've never tried the Pany but have seen some great shots with it. Guess you had to know how to use and when not to considering the flare.

What?! Haven't used it yet?! Come on! Get on out there and shoot some! Or stay in and shoot your cat! With the camera mind you, nothing else!

Coming from you Markus ... this is a HUGE compliment! I have been quietly checking on your images and competing with you in The Alt Monthly Competition ... and losing most of the time.

I have to say that Diego Martin (dukenukem) has single-handedly raised the bar for m43 shooters. Check out his website - I am sure you don't mind this, Diego! All images were shot with the Olympus OM-D:

Thanks for the link, Bobby! Diegos images are wonderful indeed. Seascapes like they should be. And "the tower" on this page is architecture par excellence. Also the color mood in your first image on the page is very lovely, Bobby. Must be a joy to take images with the Olympus cams. I always likes their approach from a usability point of view and also their lens line-up, but never considered to try it out or even switch from Canons FF sensors that I use since 2003. But I always wished that Canon might bring out a convincing FF mirrorless camera. Sony has this kind of cameras, but somehow I'm not convinced enough yet (I have an old Sony 5n that has some potential, but the user interface is so bad, that I never was able to get quality images out of it when I'm in a hurry). The high res mode in the M5-II is groundbreaking in my opinion although, especially for an architecture photographer like me. I wish it gets its way in all future cameras, irrespective of camera brand.

The next-generation shifting sensor (High Res mode) will be significantly better, as Olympus has worked out the kinks and have reduced the time it takes to capture 8 frames from approx 1 second to 1/60 second ... which means that you can shoot Hi-Res 40MP images while hand-holding the camera! You will probably see this in the E-M1 Mk II.

I recently bought the Sony A7 II plus a couple of lenses ... the FE 16-35 and FE 55/1.8 lens ... but I have not really used it as I am so comfortable with the E-M1 and some of the fabulous m43 lenses like the Nocticron.

Wow! Both images are unique, Bobby!
Regarding the sensor-shift technology: for Olympus it's a necessary (and smart) move to improve the resolution of their sensors. There wasn't much development in their sensors over the last years and like Canon they will loose users if they can't close the gap to Sony a bit. For Canon this could be a game changer, too, if they consider a similar sensor-shift technology. It can give the best of both worlds: a highly sensitive sensor with large pixels on the one hand and the ability to improve the resolution for more or less static scenes if needed, without the need for much better resolving lenses. It should be also technically possible in the future to shift the sensor more than once. I think I'm so much a believer of this technology that I'm not going to buy a new camera until this technique gets more mature. I look forward to what the M1 II will deliver.
