I've been testing it out and here's one selfie I took with the same flash gear I've been using with D700
40mm, 1/250, f/2.8, iso200
This is a really nice combination. I can get sharper results from this than from my D700. But the D700 seems to have around two stops better iso-performance.

Bobby, do you like th 12-40 as much as you thought you would? Thanks
Yes, I do. The 12-40 is an extremely good lens and it will be my work-horse lens for a long time to come, but it is not in the same league as the 75/1.8 which is still my favorite lens.
A few shots here from my 2nd shoot with the E-M1 this weekend. First 2 images with the 12-40 PRO lens.
Let me put it this way ... I have no intention of selling my 25 and 45 lenses - not yet anyway. And it's not so much for sharpness reasons (the 12-40 is plenty sharp!) but for the extra speed (low light) and shallower DOF i.e. selective focussing use. And because it's so compact and light, taking along these extra lenses on trips is not really a huge problem for me, unlike my old Canon 85L II which more often than not remained at home.

Thanks Bobby! How about the 25 and 45? Does the 12-40 replaces those for you? I know the 75 is n another league. Thanks!

Because I don't hardly ever do low light, or almost never need shallow DOF, I will get it. All I care about is sharpness for landscape shots.
Thanks
The other great aspect of the 25 is its colour rendition. I'd have a hard time giving it up even for mid-aperture shooting for that reason.
