I am somewhat fainthearted to post this because it is nowhere near the quality of Petkal's Terns but it is the best I have so far.
Whiskered Terns, they are breeding in the Netherlands for the first time since 1999.

Geert, I think those are very nicely photographed terns, as you have got all the right elements there, from exposure to wing attitude.

Given a good access to terns, like I happen to have at times, + thousands of photographs taken of the bird, then it is almost inevitable that a few keepers would surface.

Incidentally, your tern looks similar to our Common or Forester's tern.

As usual there are some amazing images in this thread & they show us how many different things photographers get interested in. Here's a few from my summer so far starting with one from Sunday that I really like.

Nice model an shot of an Elke, Peter. North Sea, can't imagine fishin for halibut n cod from a cutter like the Elke, gives a new meaning to "Deadliest Catch" fishing in the other pond

Model builder in able-younger days, lost count over the years, seafaring vessels of particular interest...a balsa wood slightly scaled down version of the "Kon-Tiki" was built in my dad's garage; kept me busy one summer, there was a Mayflower also; had a bit more rigging; some unruly types sailing it way back

Beautiful geese image...honk, honk...our ducks stopped by for a splash today, a dip in the pool, some sunning and a few quacks, then off they went...stuck in bed I, glad I've good ears

Jerry, gotta get you back in action soon.....you do not wanna keep missing those ducks in your pool. Shots of ducks taking off from water are neat.

Great shot, Kevin.

Here is something for gore lovers.

thank you Peter, amazing as always though I'm partial to the 2nd version - seems "airier" if my arbitrary preference makes any sense haha..

thanks Cam! took that at the end of an afternoon engagement session on a hot day, so the dog's mood mirrored mine for sure =)

Thanx, Kevin.....my wife is away, and usually I ask her to help me out on "whites" and WB.

Here's something with 1DX and 500 f/4, unfortunately a major crop: "This is my fish, go away..."

This is Roger. He is adorable but do not be fooled; he is a greenery devouring machine that my wife has considered 'taking out' for his transgressions toward her garden. Roger's fate is undetermined as of this writing...

It looks like the TIF photography season is over. My little friends have been fun to watch as well as shoot. Moreover, they have enabled me to test meaningfully several pieces of important gear this summer, viz. 400 f/2.8 IS MkII, 500 f/4 IS MkII and 1DX.

From the session today: handheld 1DX + 500 f/4 IS MkII.

Peter, the second shot is wicked

I have a dilemma: X + 400L II or X + 300L II + 500L II.

Your opinion please.
