p.16 #2 · Summer photography with Canon equipment

Good Morning,

Peter: I like the 800L without the TC from what I can see here, maybe needs a bit of MA which that body does not have. I am comparing those shots to the others you posted with it bare. Just my 2 cents...as I find the same thing with the 500L when I try to squeeze some more mm's.

Yes, planning ahead and always having backup plans works for me... .

Other than the uber-mega crafts from the Cayman Islands (off-shore accounts anyone?), here are some of the other viewing platforms seen during the day.

Regards,

Edd

Here are a few from a recent trip taken to Guatemala. All shot with a 7D using either the 100-400 or 17-55.

Edd, you are right, there is a bit of a focus drift with the 1.4xTC which downgrades the IQ compared to the bare lens.

Hi folks! My family is currently on vacation in lake territory and I'm dealing with possibly the world's slowest internet service so, let's see if this works at all!

Here's a couple of quick snaps with the 1d3 and 24-105, a classic 'beach bike' and some daredevil pier jumping at dusk from the young 'uns...

Summer on!

Beautiful shots all around.
I took this during the current summer. The gangbanger doesn't know his theft is being called in.

That looks startingly real.

Came upon this bird today, alas she wouldn't come any closer , and I couldn't get into the pond either, therefore even the 800mm lens wasn't cutting it. I'll try my luck again tomorrow.
This new location looks quite promising with excellent morning light, good clean background as well as water reflection, which makes something like 70% of the shot right there.

Monopod mounted 1DsMkII + 800L, 100% crop.

Thank you, Michael, but you know about 1DsMkII more than I do.
Besides, please keep in mind that I try to go after good light and nice (or at least interesting) environment, which on their own help any photographs a great deal.

Hi,

A couple from some interstate travel today. The kind-hearted woman that puts these up every summer is well into her 90's, and just loves Canada geese. I hope that I have her spunk & wit if I make it that far on the calender... .

Regards,

Edd

Some funny people post signs in your neck o' the woods, Edd.

My new little fishermen friends are still keeping their distance, thereby creating some environmental photography opportunities, but no more than that.
Got them at the sunrise this morning with monopod mounted 1DsMkII + 800L.

A juvenile (?) woody swam by and provided a bit of diversion.

Thank you kindly, Joe....that was ISO 800.....unfortunately, for 1DsMkII that is already way too high for a real clean image of a dark scene, but there was no other way.
However, only one hour later, the same spot, the same setup, had plenty of light, although getting harsh a bit, and could do with ISO 200.

In fact, I do not recall using 800L with ISO100 ever, although I know I did so last summer.

Edd, that is very funny.

Here is another very long range shot from today, done with 1DsMkII + 800L on a monopod.
I am pleased with the way the lens works on very distant targets, although that is not the way I normally like to shoot.
