Check out the RX100 review at SLRclub. (In Korean) - lots of good pics and videos however.

The samples look good to me. They look at least as good as the old MFT sensors in the E-P3 and E-PL3, etc. A little bit of CA but the easy to remove kind in LR4 and lots of detail.

Bokeh could be better but it's a compact folding zoom so what do you expect.

The colors actually look ... great? I'm mentally selling my C3 already.

Some of my faves from that review above that Rick linked.

Wow, that's one heck of a detailed review. I just wish I could understand it.

The images look quite good and are much better than the ones posted by David Pogue. I'm more interested in this camera again after seeing the images.

I imagine we'll be seeing shoot outs between the RX 100 and the new Panny LX 7 in a month or so, but if the LX 7 follows the form factor of it's predecessors, the RX 100 will be much more pocketable.

Is their a LX7 announced now ?

Be interesting if Panasonic would do a large sensor true compact as I'd have to wonder how that would affect sales of their m4/3 camera's.

I guess they could do away with the low end GF5 and similar and have their m4/3 just be higher end GH2 or upcoming GH3, GX1 etc which could actually make a lot of sense, as those who buy a GF2/3/4/5 etc probably only use it with a kit zoom anyways. Not many enthusiast are going to buy that model so perhaps don't even make it a m4/3 camera.

Make a larger sensor compact, which is something maybe a m4/3 enthusiast would just be unable to pick up as well for times when a true pocket camera is needed.

Or then again, maybe everyone is waiting to see how Sony fares

It's just a rumor - I guess it's so speculative at this point that I shouldn't have brought it up, although they say it will be announced this week:

http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/the-high-end-compact-camera-market-just-restarted-rx100-ex2-and-lx7/

But it does make sense that the the LX 5 upgrade would have a larger sensor like the RX 100.

The Zeiss logo is just a sticker, but quite robust. The Sony logo is engraved and paint filled.
The adjustment ring around the lens is customisable and nicely damped.
Doesn't save focus point if you turn the camera off, but then again no focus-by-wire camera does.
Popup flash feels quite robust.

Ergonomics are interesting, you have to hold it similarly to a Leica M, which I like

Thrice, are you going to get a chance to take some photos with it? I'm particularly curious about the lenses's edge to edge performance.

Looks pretty slick, hopefully someone comes out with a add on front grip as this camera look like it really could of used a little something ala the Canon S100 rubber finger ridge.

Is the White Magic 4 color LCD screen very impressive in actual use outdoors ?

Jeff, I will steal it back from the product expert at some stage
millsart, it is definitely a little slippery. Some griptack would help!

Tariq; how can you hold anything without _any_ grip? Get a grip I'd say.

I hope to see an RX100 in the flesh eventually, I like where they are heading with this one.

Leather doesn't look too bad really, or at least certainly should be functional if nothing else.

Id be curious to see if there are any good aftermarket grip accessories first though, such as the Fanitec ones for the Canon S series and Olympus EPL3 Mini. Looks like a crafted aluminum piece could nicely match the cameras lines and not add too much bulk.

What I'd really like to see is a Lensmate style filter thread for the front barrel. With a 1/2000th max shutter speed, being able to make use a ND filter would be very useful, especially for video recording, not to mention a polarizer etc.

Its a shame as well that the camera has bulb mode but not means to use a latching remote. Wonder if it would be possible to build a little clamp on a dovetail plate to depress and hold the shutter for some long exposure shooting.

Michael Reichman has used the camera and likes it:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/sony_rx100.shtml

He says the jpegs aren't that great, but he used an unnamed raw converter.

I think i'm going to try this camera out, but based on some past purchases, I will not deal with raw support frustration by purchasing it before it's raw files are supported by ACR or Capture One.

I think I found my video camera. According to EOSHD the AF is far faster on the Sony as well as more reliable and later, In terms of video it is a no contest – both in terms of features and image quality the RX100 is the best compact camera for video on the market. Finally I can shoot stills only with DSLR/MILC and leave the video to the RX100. Then again, I must see how the GH3 will turn out. The GH2 is already quite good so it may be the perfect all-in-one camera for me.

Just wondering, can you attach an external mic to the RX100? And if so, is there a small mic (e.g. finger size) at all?

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

No matter how nice it seems to be, I can't believe it's 'shoot OR charge the battery'. So what exactly should one do when the battery is out? Have a S100 or something for backup? How can you describe such a camera as 'the best'?
I am afraid we are dealing with marketing here and it wouldn't be for the first time as I see it. Don't get me wrong, I like RX100 and it is very nice to see new compacts so capable.

It's rare that you need to do both. I'm very happy it's in body charging, I wish all cameras did that. It's one less thing to carry with me to lose when I travel. The fact that it's USB is just cake. I can now use my massive USB batteries to charge it or even just my laptop. This is a extremely good move.
