The RX100 is a fantastic camera, that I'd recommend to anyone. THat being said...I just sold mine.
The reason being is quite simple. To me, the RX100 is a camera for when I don't want to take a camera with me. In other words, when I want to lug something around in a pocket and make sure that I can get a good quality photo when I don't have my serious gear.
The problem is, I find the user experience cumbersome. In other words, it's a camera that doesn't inspire me to take pictures, and a lot of it has to do with the ergonomics. To me, a camera has to be more than just image quality. It has to be simple, intuitive, and the controls have to make sense. The RX100 has so much technology that there's so much...too much crammed into a tiny camera, in my opinion. That's the problem.
If I want to carry light, I'll usually take my Leica X1 with me. Sure, the image quality isn't as detailed, BUT, the controls of the X1 are a joy to use, has a larger sensor and therefore better depth of field for the bokeh lover in me. It makes sense, it's simple and it inspires me to take photos. THe RX100 was just a camera I'd want to take out and take a snapshot. It did it very well, but if I wanted to change settings I had to go menu surfing, which defeats simplicity. Not only that, I'm a sucker for bokeh and in order to get bokeh on the RX100 I need to shoot it wide open and be VERY close to the subject, because of the smaller sensor. The X1, even with the slower lens gives me better DOF.
For more serious photography I'll take my OM-D, and for jobs I'll take my 5D MKIII. Again, I'd recommend the RX100 in a heartbeat to anyone looking looking for a superb camera that's small. In fact I'd recommend it over a T2i, T3i, T4i, D3200, D5100 with a kit lens on. I strongly feel the RX100 gives better quality than ANY entry level DSLR with a kit lens. But after using it for 2 solid weeks, it just isn't for me. Superb files, but to me, half of what photography is, is the user experience and how I connect with the camera, how intuitive it is, and how efficiently I can change settings on it. Part of that is what helps inspire me and makes me want to take pictures. I simply couldn't connect with the camera. Over the long run, I'd only take the RX100 with me for places I go where I don't want to take a camera. I'm sure that for a lot of other people though, the RX100 will be the love of their life because it fits their needs.
Just my 2 cents...
