I am getting mine today too, some of the photos posted with that camera, are astounding. For example this photo posted at gizmodo at ISO1250... I've never seen a point-and-shoot with that low noise at that ISO http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17utwosvcncncjpg/original.jpg
Now with all the folks that are getting leather cases for this camera, I have a question. I already have a couple of DSLRs, and Sony NEX-7. I am getting the RX100 largely for its small factor so it can fit in a pocket. Why make it larger with a case and defeat the purpose of a small factor? Or these leather cases don't make it larger?
Thanks for the reply to my question about the "skin" you applied to your RX100 - and thanks for the links - very helpful!
I think I will order the same skin kit you did.
On another issue: my RX100 was delivered to me 30 minutes ago. I have it charging via the electrical wall socket. The small light is "on" indicating it is charging. I took a quick look at a few menu items but did not see how you tell when the battery is fully charged - where is the icon showing the level of charge in the battery!
Sony really should have included a proper instruction book with this camera - especially since it's not a cheap camera!

Because not everyone wants to carry it in their pocket. I personally think those cases are silly on any given camera be it a RX100 or a M9, as they just get in the way and are a pain every time you want to change the battery or card etc but some people like them even though they do make the camera bigger. Some people no doubt would like a bigger grip and think the camera is too small as is even.
I bought the RX100 for its pocket size, as did many, but it would be foolish to think that EVERYONE bought it for that reason, or expect everyone to carry it like that.
If someone prefers to carry it in a belt case, or around their neck etc, more power to them. If you don't like carrying it like that and want it in your pocket, then more power to you as well.
Make sure when ordering you pick if you want the ones with the little Zeiss decal cutout or not.
Heard of one person so far that took that sticker off, which many may end up doing, and then got the skin with the cutout for it which then looks odd as its a window for nothing
likewise, if you don't want to show off that decal, get the solid skin which covers it up

Thanks! I sorted that out but nevertheless thanks for your responding to my question about how to tell when the RX100 battery is fully charged.
As I mentioned previously - I read from several different sources that the instructions were very poor for this camera but wow - that's an understatement. I shot Nikon film and then digital SLR cameras for forty-five years and had a few P&S cameras along the way so I think I can work my way through the controls and what's what but never would I think Sony would screw up that bad!
I just got my rx100 today. I have been checking the manual but don't know if there is an option for having the lens remember it's last focal length, so when you turn the camera back on it's at that, instead of 28mm
I read on the web where people say it always goes back to 28mm and some say it can remember it's last used length but don't say how.
I found a "Lowepro Sorento 20" at Staples. Fits great, looks great, has a belt loop so it can't fall off, no zipper to catch on camera - a magnetic flap close - all leather. Just be careful while pushing the camera into the case - don't push on the "On/off" button on the RX100 - that would not be good. Room for camera only.
I don't really like a 1/2 lb chunk of metal in my pocket
The biggest drawback is the cost- $29 US! Looks Good though!

People care enough about a decal that companies make cases with cutouts for them ? Possibly the height of photographic ostentation in this price range.

Well I'm sure if anyone made a case for a Leica that covered that red dot they'd darn well make a cut out for it as well.
Personally, I think it was more a case that the person who cut the leatherette pattern probably thought people would care, rather than consumers all demanding their Zeiss logo be able to be showed off.
I'm covering mine and I'm also going to try to fill in the white "Sony" emblem on the front with black paint for a totally blacked-out look

hey guys, just a heads up... Beach Camera on eBay has a 10% bonus eBay Bucks promotion going on right now... total for the RX100 after eBay Bucks is $583.
Anyone happen to try the RX100 with a gigapan robotic panoramic head per chance ?
I used to have the large one a while back but it was just always too big/heavy to really take anywhere.
I just came across the original Epic model, which was designed for just point and shoots, and presses the shutter with a little motorized button pusher thing for a mere $125 and figured it would be worth a try with the RX100. Small camera, 20meg resolution, full manual control and the ability to shoot RAW files sounds like a perfect match for it.
Granted even this small model is still 3-4lbs so not really something to go hiking with, but for $125 I'm thinking I can get some enjoyment out of it shooting some cityscapes etc. Hopefully even pay for itself many times over if I can apply it to some of my commercial work.
Was somewhat disappointed with the first set of shots.
The camera really suffers from the same problem that the NEX-7 does - the minimum shutter speed chosen in A/P modes is too low for the tiny size of the pixels.
Once I fiddled around and did some shooting in S/M modes, I was more impressed.
I really wish Sony would allow us to dial in a minimum shutter speed when using Auto-ISO. I wouldn't go lower than 1/60, even for still-life, if at all possible.
Otherwise, I like the speed and feel of the camera. Wish the lens was a tad faster at the long end, and/or retained a larger aperture through more of the range, but I knew that limitation coming into it.
I know some don't like the lack of external battery charger, but for what this camera is, I can appreciate the implementation they chose - as little to pack along as possible. Love that it uses the same USB connector as many of my other devices.
Sony has been stubborn to no end when it comes to the auto-ISO limitations as well as the rather pathetic AEB of only +/- .7 stops max. Adding insult to injury is that on the jpeg only HDR option they give you an option to select up to 6EV. Its like Sony knows you need more than 1.5 stops range for HDR but just won't give those of us who want to blend manually have that ability.
Every camera I've owned from the original NEX5 I've had the same complaints and they yet to fix or even acknowledge them.
RX100 is a great camera, as are the NEX models, but it would be so simply to update the AEB to allow a wider range or add a minimum shutter speed for auto-ISO
