Just got mine in the mail as well. Won't have a chance to play with it till after work, but I'm wondering if anything supports the thing in RAW yet? Thinking it'll be a bit before lightroom covers it and I'd like to find something that can do it in the meantime.
As far as video, I have to confess that I've never shot video with any of my cameras (except for lots of accidental NEX 7 video footage). I've used a Flip because it's so easy. Since the RX100 isn't much bigger than the Flip, I'm going to switch over to it.
Would someone please suggest some video settings to use on the RX100?
Any additional advice on taking video with the RX100 would also be appreciated.

I downloaded the Sony raw converter. I only use it to adjust exposure comp. and white balance if necessary (no contrast adjustments) and then process a fairly flat looking Tiff. Then I take care of all contrast adjustments and sharpening in Photoshop. I use the Color Efex plug in and adjust contrast using the Pro Contrast filter, which gives me very good results. I also use the PhotoKit Sharpener plug in, but most of us here have developed their own favorite sharpening routines.
Man, I must be spoiled by Lightroom. Sony's raw converter seems sooo sloooow. This is a pretty slick little camera though. Can't wait to actually get it out and about this weekend.

Straight out of camera jpegs. No post.
I believe the wider end is a bit sharper than the longer end.
Nice images! That's also the impression I got from some of the DPR and other samples around. A lot of the longer end work I saw from it was wide open and relatively close up, where there seems to be a bit of SA glow, IMO. The few infinity shots I've seen at the long end seem pretty decent, especially if stopped down a bit.

Do the art filters work in video mode? Could be a cheap rotoscoping alternative. If not in video, then at 10fps as stop motion!

Again, super easy to apply in software, and lots more creative and dynamic. Even something like VLC can do these and more in real-time. There are hundreds of free apps that do this kinda stuff and lots more with complete control over the results while keeping the original file's image integrity. These days, needing a computer even to play back video or view stills, I can't see any purpose beyond a marketing gimmick, why a camera manufacturer would put those in. <shrug>
OK, good to know those options are pretty easy to find. While the features may come across as marketing gimmick to this crowd, I suspect we don't approach photography the same way as the average snap-shooter. In fact, we probably complicate it a lot more with the need/desire for post production work on our images. Most people probably prefer to get the final look straight from the camera and don't care about the irreversible nature of these art filters on Jpeg files. At least not in the immediate timeframe. It's definitely the impression I get from my GF who likes the filters in the XZ-1. Just think of all the hipstamatic instagram style photos emanating from millions of iPhones right now making it look like a 70s flashback. Will those images still be cool in 5-10 years? I suspect not. Like fashion, it will be yet another marker for a given era. But like fashion, who cares about what the future will think? It's all about what seems good right now.
In the hands of a good photographer this camera can sing!
BTW - this camera allows shooting "Straight" then you can add the watercolor or illiustration effect later - in camera. In addition I should mention that I usually have to post process even the "Art Filter" shots, to get the effect that I like.
For those of you who have used the s100 and now have the rx100- How do the JPEGs compare? How do the sony colors compare with those of canon? I currently use a 5DII and carry a s100 in my purse and am considering getting the rx100 to replace my s100 but have no prior experience with sony.
Just want to chime in for a cheap minimalist case if you have bought into the m43 system. The little drawstring felt bag that comes with the Oly flash (FL-300 I think) fits perfectly and should be sufficient to keep pocket lint and scratches from messing up your RX

All I know is that my wife is going to kill me if I buy another camera.
Buy it for her as a present. "Honey, I really have too many cameras. Here's one for you". Of course, once it's at home you could always borrow it when she's not using it.
