Tom is the OP who posted the link in the first place. Not the first time he has mislead people and sent them to another site that was worthless.

I realized that later on whom you meant . I was multi-tasking and following the price of FB following its IPO - Sorry. Somebody else already posted right after I did and I didn't feel like editing my post after that. Thanks!

I apologize if I seem overly harsh. I'm just not sure why anyone would not first think critically about an article or blog before posting a link to share in a photography community. One certainly can't make everyone happy all the time, but still, a little forethought would be nice.

It sounds like you're making an assumption that Tom K. (or any of us) would arrive at the same conclusion as you have (that the linked article is worthless) and therefore unworthy to share.

I'm not sure that's a fair reason to call the OP's motives into question. Sure I find Chris Weeks' style offensive too, but I've seen some of the same issues in my kit, and in a free society people can voice opinions, well, freely.

As for the other thread you linke to, I do actually know of Kirk Tuck and respect his opinions and his practice. Right now he's advocating a low ISO, high DR discipline and I see nothing wrong with that. Canon is no longer the leader in that aspect of digital imaging, and there is nothing wrong with calling on Canon to improve.

As for me, I just ordered a 5D Mark III, as (I believe) it to offer the optimum *gestalt* of features/performance for my style of photography. But I think the D800 and some of the newer M4/3 and APS-C cameras that use Sony's sensors kick some serious imaging butt, and any success they earn is deserved.

With 6 pages of posts within 24 hours offering opinions on the "worthless" post... it appears this "photography community" was at the very least motivated to discourse by the "poorly written" and "profane" blog.

Can't even squeak 6 posts out of a best ball head thread anymore.

While it is poor form to discuss other peoples literary skills and spelling errors in forum posts, Weeks maintains a blog and that's a whole different thing. I only read that blog post in it's entirety for the purpose of this thread. Had I chanced upon it in one of my Google searches, I would have ordinarily passed him by.

While he may have some valid complaints, I just can't take him too seriously.

I find it completely ironic he complains about Canon's arrogance.

And I find it moronic that (he claims) people are selling their Canon gear to buy Nikon because Nikon kind of got it right during this model season.

He'll be back, when Nikon drops the ball on the next go 'round.

p.6 #9 · Wild Canon switch to Nikon rant.

I earn my living as a photographer and about half my income is weddings. In my opinion Canons flash metering is pretty atrocious, but what really got me thinking about it was when I had another photographer shoot some events with me using Nikon D300's. I was using Canon 5DmkII's and when I started editing the work from the event from both our cameras I was shocked how little post processing was necessary from the Nikons versus what was required from my Canons.

The other frustration with Canon has been really poor autofocus accuracy with my cameras when shooting groups even with 580 flash attached giving focus assist. I am typically at about F8 and will shot several images of each group and I am amazed at how many images are badly out of focus, and this is shooting subjects that are standing still with plenty of contrast. Again in my experience Nikons are better in this situation.

These seem like pretty fundamental issues that haven't improved through several generations of Canons digital cameras, and should have been addressed long ago so in this regard I would have to agree with Chris. I would also agree that the 85mm f1.2 and in particular the 50mm f1.2 are overpriced for what they deliver, but really thats a personal decision as to whether they are worth it to you.

I have never shot any 35mm based system other than Canon and really have no plans to switch to Nikon, but there is definitely room for improvement in the Canon realm.

Gene, without going into too much detail, you need to look into getting a 5D Mark III for your wedding business. While the outer AF point may be questionable but the center AF point of the 5D Mark II is really excellent. It sounds that your 5D Mark II and/or your lenses will have to be microfocus adjusted. I was surprised that you tolerated that condition that long.

I do not mislead people. If you have not heard of Kirk Tuck or Chris Weeks and are not familiar with their work then you are now. That can't be a bad thing. Weeks and Tuck are talented.

One way or another the blog posts by Chris Weeks and Kirk Tuck sure got a lot of views. Good for them.

The artical on street shooting was entertaining and informative. It's to bad some can't get passed the profanity. Because there is some good info in that artical , not to mention some excellent street photography.
While I dont agree with everthing presented it's always good to hear and read other's take on the subject.

As far as switching from Nikon to Canon and getting rid of all my Leica M system.

Even with having the inferior 5D2 and only three Canon Primes I am able to make some decent images. Who knew.

The fact is the single most important link in the image chain is the photographer.

In the past Iv also shot Leica M system M3, M7, MP, M8, M9, as well as just about everything else. From Pentax 6X7 and 4X5 to my beloved Rollie twin , which I still say is one of the better street camera's out there. At least for me.

Quiter than any Leica and it's hard to be more unobtrusive. The combination of the camera on the belly while one looks down on the big bright focusing screen, combined with the near silent Compu shutter and the amazing 80 2.8 glass is really something.

This camera is made in 1965 and it's still get used everyday.

Anyway I am not get into the Nkon vs Canon debate
However, this weekend. I had a chance to test fire my pals D-800 and his almost new 200 2.0.
The subject I want to talk about was his 18 year old kitty in a dark hallway , boots , While the focus locked on the D-800 the shots where clearly out of focus, while talking the same subject with my 200 1.8 EF L and my lowely 5D2 I was able to get one perfectly sharp image. And unlike the test with the Nikon D-800
In the 5D2 /200 1.8 EF L combo the kitty was walking towards me.
not scientic but as the they say the proof is in the pudding.

I just shows having the latest greatest gear out there is no guaranteee for success.

For me having had experience in several other systems has made me a better photograpaher. I know I can shoot with just about everything and decent images.

That being said , if your thinking about changing sytems, go for it.
Change is a good thing and anything that inspires one to go out and take pictures is a good thing.
