despite the fact that it goes against the spirit of this thread, let me advise you to spend some time using the rokkor stopped down. many people seem to only shoot it wide open but i think it is most special at f/2 and it continues to be excellent as you stop down. it's easy to focus stopped down till at least f/4 too.

I agree! It is very sharp at f2. Bokeh is great at f2. I love its Bokeh at f1.2 as well. But feel Nikkor AIS's Bokeh is as good or bad at f1.2.

the nikkor seems to me to have a faster focus roll off, harsher bokeh edges, and is more susceptible to purple fringing in the bokeh. that's just from the pictures i've seen with it though, i've never shot with it. i'd love to see a comparison if you still have the lens?

I feel Rokkor has more faster focus roll off at f1.2. but I am dealing with multiple factor as new lens and new body, Canon vs Nikon ,D700 vs 6D, 12M vs 20M, Rokkor is better corrected lens at f1.2 than Nikon. As for Bokeh, I no longer have Nikkor anymore. I will digger my old pictures, but nothing scientific, this is just a feeling I got from short usage of Rokkor. So I won't seriously argue the Bokeh quality at f1.2 here.
The really impressed quality of Rokkor is the off-center WO sharpness. That is open a window of freedom of composition at 'f1.2.' as shown the BW photo posted previous pg. It is a 'monster' performance to me. I couldn't rate it higher.

not familiar with that lens, is it a macro or medical lens of some sort?
I bought the lens years ago from Cinstance on this site. It was probably a medical lens. It is a fixed aperture, fixed focus. The lens is a lot of fun.
