Of course I missed you. You know, you're always welcome.
Yes I'm after one myself, I'm on several waiting lists.
At first I wanted to skip the D800; 36Mpx is too much, but I downloaded some files and looked at it and together with all the other refinements/improvements I'm sold now.
I'm creating funds by selling other gear.
You need a back-up body as well, I have a nice D700 + grip for sale. .
I am also canon shooter. Searching for smooth shadows transition. I shoot landscape, portrait and graphic art. Which one D800 / D800E will help me better? beside 12-24mm i am also looking for 50/85 prime lenses, any comment would be helpful. TIA

Chris, is there any indication how long it will take before the D800 becomes available in the NL?
I would like to get my hands on one before I decide anything. Maybe at NPS?
Would be nice to get together again. Maybe you can teach me a few Nikon tricks
Longgggg.
I'm nr 20 on the waiting list at my local dealer (who I happen to know for 15 years).
This month they get 2 bodies. They're trying to get more but I guess this would be one or two more.
NPS is doing regional tours where you can have a try with the D4/D800.
BTW the D4 is more or less easy to get (I know 3 places where they have at least one).

RAW conversion done by Capture NX2. Please be aware, that I just converted the RAW files to JPEG. No postprocessing was done in these images except WB set to daylight in the last 3 photos.
All images handheld.
Lenses:
Model: AFS 70-200mm/2.8 VR II
Architecture & Helicopter & Pelican: AFS 300mm/2.8 VR II
Here is one more with the "el cheapo" AFS 85mm/1.8G.
Shot wide open, handheld Model #2
Andreas,
So far I have not seen a single picture from any 35mm DSLR that can produce an image with quality like the one you have shown here no matter what those Canonites said they can do with their 1Ds3, 5D2 or even the latest 1Dx and 5D3.
Especially the one shown here with the title Model #2, the fine detail, resolution and DR from a distance that can show the little "Air Bubble" trapped under her contact lens. WOW!
I can even see the reflection from her right eye an average build guy wearing white short sleeve shirt with a dark color tie (or maybe a monopod/tripod) taking the picture in portriat mode with his right hand raise high up. WOW! WOW!
Now, for those who said that they don't need the 36MP resolution will have to think very hard now if they ever want to say that again.
And for digital noise for such a small pixel, the shot with the title "Nightshot" have proven them all wrong too.

I just read at the KE site that the expected sale date is 12 april. Since they are a big reseller, maybe they'll get more than 2 bodies.
Put the 14-24 on your wish list. Great lens with no Canon equivalent. Zeiss 100 MP 2.0 is another great lens if you don't mind manual focus. It is also a macro lens, though Nikon's 105 macro is very good.

Hans,
you are right - the resolution of the D800 is its most fascinating attribute. BTW, the D800 is no slouch in ISO 3200 and ISO 6400 situations.
@Andy
Sure is nice to know that the D800 is performing just as well as the D4 in low light when considering the difference in pixel size and light gethering capabilities.
But I am still more impress with the Model #2 shot because it was taken with very little lighting base from what I saw from the reflection off the model's eye (it look as if it was only lit with a softbox) and the next thing is that the focus was not exactly on the model's iris but more towards the forehead or the bridge of her nose because the eye lashes were not exactly sharp due to the shallow DOF, but still it has the resolution to reproduce enough detail on the air bubble as well as the photographer in her eye.
Normally, for a camera that does not have that kind of resolution the air bubble would not be obvious and the image of the photographer would have been pixelated or glob if not for the high resolution and the dynamic range to reproduce it even if it was slightly OOF due to the shallow DOF.
And by the way was that a tie, a tripod or a monopod that I saw from the reflection?
Really envy you guys with that kind of blue sky in Austria as well as in mid US where I spent many years there. Over here we might only get it for a couple of days and still it is not as dry, clear and deep blue.
Quotes: I like my 5DM2, I love my Canon lenses, but there's just no comparison.
"No comparison" in what respect(s)?"
Answer: They don't produce banding even when you underexpose by 10 stops javascript:void(0);
Sorry, I could't resist reading these posts.
I recommend reading the Hammeruserforum.com on the lensrentals.com which has captured the spirit and intellectual depth of most "discussions" on many forums : -)

I wonder if the reported focus issue will slow demand, probably not new maybe resales?
Interesting how the tables have turned,
Nikon now with the leading sensor and having reports of Canon like focus issues.
Key to be sure to get a valid warranty if buying from this early batch.
What focus issue are you talking about?
I hope is not about what I am talking about large aperture opening due to low light and thus having shallow DOF.

Because there's someone in the world having a problem with AF there's a worldwide issue with the D800?
