p.35 #1 · Olympus OM-D EM-5

Can someone post a RAW file from the OM-D and a RAW file of the same scene with the same exposure with an APS-C camera? Base ISO and a contrasty scene would be great.

I just want to test out the dynamic range in LR4 before I jump on this bandwagon.

Using my A850 to do wide angle shots last weekend really pissed me off.

I'd like to see this too.... FPF - what issues are you having with your ZF21 and A850?

Lens/sensor reflection issues when shooting into the sun with the sun more centrally located.

Using lee filters is a tripod only option, i scratched an Expensive Singh Ray filter...

I generally like to shoot with at least 2 bodies if I'm shooting primes and the A850 is just so freacking DOMINATING that I always end up frustrating myself or leaving the camera on the ground while I shoot with my Nex.

I love the results but the actual shooting part sucks.

If there was a true wide angle (shorter than 24mm) for the NEX-7, I'd own a second NEX7 but I think I'm probably going to pick up the OM-D with a Oly 9-18mm and a Panny 45mm F2.8. I'd love to get a Panny 7-14mm but you just can't use filters on it and a wide angle I can't use filters on is useless to me. So I'll have to settle for the worse performance and build quality of the 9-18mm.

It is ridiculously compact for a 18-36mm equivalent lens though.

I see. It will be great to see the results you get if you go the OM-D route...

9-18mm really isn't that bad of lens. I've had both it and the 7-14mm at the same time and many times preferred the 9-18. Its just more useful on the camera, much smaller/lighter and obviously can take filters.

I ended up selling both of them as I favor the Olympus 12mm f2.0, as it just meets my shooting needs better, but the 9-18mm really is no slouch.

I might suggest you forgo the 45mm f2.8 and give the 12-50 a try first. Its a surprisingly good dedicated macro lens, and a mere $300 with the camera purchase. Not to mention its got the weather sealed build which could come in useful at times.

It will actually focus down to about 4-5" when its set to the macro mode. I think the focal length is something like 46mm f6.3 when the elements are shifted.

I had zero interest in the lens at first, only getting it because its how the kit they shipped me came, rather than body only, but darn if I didn't end up actually being glad I've got it.

My 12/20/25/45 (45 1.8, Oly, not the Panny) kit of course is what I prefer to shoot with, but I can very well see myself putting the 12-50 on for things like a trip to the beach etc for casual shooting. Places where I don't want to carry a bunch of glass and/or deal with changing lens due to the environmental conditions.

The Panny 45mm F2.8 is exceptional to me because of the almost complete lack of any bokeh CA. Really very interested in that and it's already exceptional performance and bokeh.

I used to own the 9-18 when I shot MFT:

It may lack bokeh CA .... but it also lacks the bokeh blur quality of the faster 45/1.8.

Does Lightroom 4 have the profiles for auto removal of CA and distortion ... as that would help greatly.

I shoot macros at F4 or higher. And need at least 1:2 if not more.

Got my EM-5 yesterday and started using it today. Had a very rough start - the UI/controls have a few quirks and require some intensive effort to get comfortable but some friendly folks in the dpreview MFT forum help me sort them out and now I'm a bit more at ease with the camera.

With Pany 25mm, at f/1.4:

I'm waiting for the rain here in FL to clear up, then I'm going to do some extensive comparison shots with the Nex7 and the EM5 - all with adapted Minolta lenses. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get out. I've had 10" of rain by my house this week, stuff is going to start floating away if it doesn't stop soon.

Masochist that I am, I just bought on B&S.

now to hunt down a Panny 45mm and a Oly 9-18mm.

If I ever find the will power, I'll do a direct comparison to my C3 and possibly my Nex-7.

My Zeiss 21mm F2.8 zf.2 is probably on it's way out.

If you guys can send them a message too, for IBIS to work in video-mode with non-native lenses, that would be great!

Weekend bump... don't forget to email/message Olympus and request for IBIS in Video-Mode with Non-Native Adapted Lenses

I'll be interested if anything else, be it glass or bodies ends up going as well after some time with the EM-5.

I ended up selling both my NEX7 and my X100 (which is one of the last camera's I ever thought I'd give up) as I just found myself preferring the EM-5 over both of them. They of course have their strengths as well, but just overall the EM-5 is what I always was reaching for.

Make sure you order the grip as well. Its sadly a bit pricey but it makes a world of difference with the handling of the camera and its a pretty high quality piece as well, no flex or squeaking etc.

Interesting test but the em5 might be using a slightly different or customized sensor than the gx1

The em5 files also look a bit more detailed with finer resolution than the gx1 on my iPad 3 screen even at base ISO.

Anyone using or ordered one of the RRS QR plates for the OM-D?

http://reallyrightstuff.com/Items.aspx?code=BodyOlympusEM5&key=cat

Acratech has an OM-D camera plate but I don't see an L-plate:

http://acratech.net/home.php?cat=90

I am thinking maybe I should just get the Acratech plate. Any thoughts or opinions from anyone about a camera plate?
