The XF 18/2 arrived this morning. I really like this lens like the XF 27. This lens in its rendering reminds me of the M 28 Cron. This lens is surprisingly sharp and has lots of character. The 28mm lenses can be very difficult as they can be uber sharp and have no feel, yet this lens is very similar to the XF 35/1.4 in feel.
The other aspect is that I was very interested in how the XF 18 would gel with 24 MP Xtrans sensor. This in itself could change the feel of the lens as it would add to the sharpness yet the lens still has the smooth roll off.
First couple shots as environmental portrait with a lot of strong back lighting.
Another portrait shot high key image with extreme back-lighting. I had read the XF 18/2 had quite a lot of CA, but with the strong harsh back light at f/2 I would have expected CA on the hairline. There was none at all. I suspect these may have since been corrected with lens profile FW updates by Fuji.
Very nice. Would love to hear how you processed for the colours in second image?
Thanks! I really only did some minor adjustments to these. For the second one, basic tone curve adjustment, also a very slight tone curve adjustment on the reds and then pulled up the shadows on the blue channel blues by like 2%. Also a slight WB adjustment to warm it up slightly. No custom color profiles, just AdobeRGB as I still only have LR5 and it seems I need to upgrade
Thanks for the reply. Must admit I've never used individual color channels on the tone curve, must try that. Cheers
I like what I'm seeing with the sharpness and contrast from your samples of the 18/2. Do you have the 18-55 kit? I'd love to see a comparison shot between the 18/2 and the 18mm end of the zoom wide open.

Yes the plant has long since missed its last watering days I also have the 18-55 zoom. From what I have seen the 18/2 is in a different league. When I get a chance I will try and run some comparisons.
