p.1 #1 · I'm jumping ship....to a dinghy. Incoming NEX.

After playing around with a NEX 5N for a few days, I'm sold. It's pictures and ability to take them leaves little to be desired. Sure, it doesn't have the best ergonomics or menus, but I don't necessarily dislike them. They just aren't familiar yet.

Anyway, tonight I'll be listing all of DSLR gear. I've got entirely too much money invested in this hobby and I can't justify it to myself anymore. Especially since the difference in switching from my 5D2 and Zeiss lenses to NEX + Contax 28, 45, 90 + undecided WA will clear me off all my worldly debt (save my mortgage).

For years the only thing holding me back has been the MP-E 65. I'm just not using it as I haven't gotten the enjoyment out of hunting for bugs that I used to. It was my only limiting factor from getting the D700 when I purchased my 5D2.

Time will tell if I'm making the right choice. Based on the lovely image thread - which I browsed 130 pages of - I think I'll be alright.

Also, how are using filters on the NEX?

I mainly use circular polarizers but I've wondered about others using one of the filter holder systems...

...another one bites the dust...

Welcome to the easy (on the shoulder) side. The NEX5n is a fine piece of equipment despite the shortcomings and lack of "heft". You will appreciate the small inconspicuous package.

I am not to keen on the ergonomics of the G lenses on NEX (or any other RF camera), but the results are fine/great. I had most of the G lenses on the G2 for a couple of years and the lenses are hard to beat.

Congrats for coming over to the dark side. I just sold off my 5d2 and I'm in the process of selling my Zeiss lenses to move to a Nex kit - now if I can just find a Nex7 selling for MSRP....

Congrats, I'm hope you really like it! I really, really wanted to like my NEX 5N but it's mostly a wife-camera now...I discovered I still need PDAF performance for many things, so now I'm an A77 shooter

It's really too bad I can't really mount my Minolta 35-70mm 'macro' on the A77 - that lens handles really poorly on the 5N because of how it's built / size / weight, but I absolutely love it's crazy bokeh.

Yup...It just keeps rolling on...after four months of using Nexes... Nexii? I've finally ditched my 5DMkII. No more SLRs here, either.

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1161223

If anyone is interested in anything.

I hope it sells quick, I can't wait to play with it!

That being said, I'm still undecided on a WA for the NEX. I am a WA shooter. I don't know what to get. I'm leaning towards the Rokinon 14, I know it's good. *but it doesn't take filters AAAH* I previously owned it. I can't think of many other 10-18 lenses that take filters and are good on the NEX. That seems to be the system's downfall. Then again, if we get a FF NEX I'd be set with a contax G 21, 28, 45, 90.

just get the cv 15. it seems to work quite well on the 5N and it's itty bitty.

the m39 version is optically identical but the hood filter arrangement is different so you could decide which you prefer. i would definitely get the helicoid adapter for m-mount, otherwise i don't know which are the best. cheapies have mostly worked fine for me. whether you need multiples depends on how you shoot and what you carry with you, i just use one adapter per mount to save space.

I think we will see more and more people making the switch. Wait until the first FF Nex is announced

On the 5N, I am really happy with the Zeiss ZM 18mm f:4.0. Not exactly cheap, mind, but a mighty fine lens.
Regarding G-to-E-mount adapters, I have been happy with a couple of Kipons. Not as good as focusing on the lens, by a long shot, but better than othes IMHO. And I haven't seen anyone complaining against them, either. It also gives the lens a much shorter MFD than a more traditional M-mount rangefinder adapter.

Maybe I'll add a NEX, but I really don't see myself totally switching. I love FF and the ZE/ZF lenses too much. Using those on a NEX doesn't make sense to me.

At this moment it's just not as good with wideangle lenses as my 5DII. It also can't do wideangle with shallow DOF (like a 35mm at 1.4 for example).

Hello plasticmotif,

Will be looking forward on your pictures on the NEX thread

You will love the portability and able to compose a picture without getting attention etc etc.. The best part I like most about the 5N is the touch screen could magnify the area you want to focus, this is the feature that keeps me from getting the 7. Although I know some users had a different take on that.

The downside for me is it's still is a crop sensor camera that lacks for dof control of a FF camera, like 35 1.4 on FF like Jochenb mention. So the D700 still gets some time.

Re-lenses, as good as the G lenses are, I find the focus via adapter thing to be a little unnatural & bumpy (again, others my differ). If you prefer a well rounded kit for the some money there is the Voigtlander M lenses:

CV 25 f/4 snapshot Skopar
CV 35 f/2.5 Skopar
CV 50 f/1.5 Nokton or CV 90 f/3.5 APO lanthar

I doubt you're going to be disappointed with them

I started with the LTM but found I kept twitching the focus while adjusting f stop and vice versa, especially with gloves on (1.5 seasons here in the NE). The M mount is much better. I concur that the Hawks is a must...

That sounds pretty positive, Edward. Is that based on inside information or a feeling?
