I only had to shave 1 or 2mm of the fin of my Contax 100/2.8, and I could just unscrew the mount piece to which the fin is attached so that I could work on it safely. It worked fine on my 5D after the operation. The same might be true for the longer teles.
By the way, I think that the Contax telezooms (80-200/4 and 100-300/4.5-5.6) are much more interesting than the tele primes, in terms of optical performance.

This thread (and the previous 'What would you like to see Zeiss making next?') has piqued my interest in the beginnings of the original C/Y Zeiss lenses. I had a little dig around using Google and came across a link to an old brochure from 1975 for the original line-up of Zeiss lenses:
Cool find! It's missing several models tho. Like the MP 100/2.8, the 100-300/4.5 zoom, and so on...
I suppose those came out for the RTS II or something aye?
I wonder how many of these were unique to the C/Y mount and how many were adaptations of earlier designs?
50/50 maybe... ?
Now all Zeiss have to do is buy in a few of the new Sony 36MP sensors and shove them into an RTS style body and I would be eternally happy.

I have a feeling it has more to do with the MKIII and softness at the pixel level versus the Zeiss itself (that or they got a clunker)
The samples from the Zeiss Images review make it look like a different lens...

Looks like the other 5Dmk3 jpegs that are blurred due to noise reduction. But the lens obviously isn't sharp outside of zone A even at f/5.6 in these samples. I'm not buying that.

I preordered one back in March, supposedly delivery starts 5/29 (delivery to where I don't know.) I don't know how long it will take to reach end dealers as mine hasn't heard anything definitive. Zeiss says that there is high demand and they are going to expand production, I hope I get one from the first batch. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Didn't get much interest on my last post, but the word is that the lens probably won't ship to dealers until late June or early July (3 to 4 weeks.) They are still working on a few tweaks.

Lucky you photoe! Here's the answer I got back from Zeiss about the US. Heard pretty much the same thing from my dealer the next day.
We are sorry to keep you waiting Tim. The serial production of the first lot is finished. We have to do some final adjustments in Japan and Germany to further improve the performance. Right after this the lenses for the US market will be shipped with priority to US dealers. We do all we can to speed up the process but we expect a delay of availability in the US of 3 to 4 weeks (June/July). We know people are waiting but according to our philosophy of quality we prefer to risk some weeks of delay to ensure decades of high performance.
