I take what Lloyd Chambers writes with a grain of salt.
His first impression, on his free blog, of the ZE 35 f:1.4: Great! Incredible! Then, when he wrote on his paying "Guide to Zeiss lenses": ah, yes, but ...... " Then he announced on his blog that part of the "but..." should really mean "....."
His first impression of the ZE 25 f:2.0, went just the same way. First: "Wow!", then later "but...."
So reading an initial "Wow!" hasn't exactly caught me by surprise, nor contributed to my forming an early opinion of this lens.
And my guess is that the price will be quite a bit higher than $2500. $3500 is more like what I expect, if the lens is to be really state-of-the-art.

meh, the Z* 21mm is too wide for me. i have no interest in a lens like this. what do people use a 15mm for anyway? interiors? taking pictures of puddles that make them look like lakes?

I´ll bet it has a severe 3% mustage distortion and the outermost three pixels in the corners will be less sharp. Furthermore the Nikon 14-24 will be better at both 14 and 24mm. And, oh dear, the curvature of field... So this will no doubt be one more of those totally useless much too expensive (I´m with philber here) Zeiss offerings that we had so much hope for. f/2.8 would of course render it even more than totally useless as everyone need razor thin DOF in ultrawides, and that´s exactly where those nasty corner pixels kick in. Did I cover it all? Too bulky, too heavy, closest focus distance not within the front lens, so sharp it lacks character, only one puny star in T*?

Very good, Z250SA. I think you covered everything except the severe vignetting that will make the new lens useless for everything except kitsch effects!

I'm sticking to my earlier estimate of $2995. I think it might be tough for Zeiss to go above that price point for this lens, but I could be wrong (as rare an occurrence as that might be).
