I'm about 99.9999% sure that what you are seeing is a "pending" charge (at least that is what my bank calls it). What they do is put a pending charge through to the bank to see if the bank will honor it (kind of a credit check) but don't put through the actual charge till they ship. The same thing happened on my 24-70 II B&H pre-order. It disappeared after a few days. I currently have the pending charge for the 5D III showing on my account and it should also disappear in a few days.
do they also withdraw money from your account as well?

Nope, on my D700 I can adjust shutter, aperture, and EV in manual mode, when to use it, this article explains it (the subsection When to Use EV Compensation):
Um, EV or EC in manual is a feature I'm not familiar with. Since I don't own a Nikon, I actually took a trip to your link, but this is all I found of relevance (exactly what I'd have expected):
"NB: You cannot use the EV button to under or overexpose your photo in M (manual) mode since you control both the shutter speed and aperture manually."
So, not exactly sure where you're coming from here.
Looks like this feature is not available on 1DX/5D III. As far as the page goes, I was looking for some examples on when to use it. Not all Nikon cameras have that feature.

At the end of the day it was the fact I can have it now (ready for three shoots this month), the fact it's already done a lot of depreciating price-wise, the great AF and 16MP quality which is fine for stock, and the fact I miss the handling of a 1D vs 5D with grip.
If the reviews for the 5D3 are stellar beyond expectation, I can easily swap over later this year without much loss.

And after all that, a 1D4 it is........ on order.

Gear headache over, back to shooting.
See how the 1D4 works for you then you can still sell it for ~ $3900 in December when the rebates/sales for the 5D3 come out............as nice as it's expected to be, it's no 1 series
I doubt he will get 3900 in Dec. They can be had for that now, and I've seen a few in the 3400-3700 range. I've been watching like a hawk, 3200-3000 and I'm in.

True, depending on condition........if his is on order than it could still be mint with low actuations plus a warranty
Prices over here are a little different. New prices for 1D4 and a 5D3+grip are near identical. The resale of my 1D4 (should it be necessary) could well be similar to the cost of a 5D3 after a year or so - a minor difference is a small price to pay for a year of use.

It is really funny. We are just away 1 hour of flight. New prices here at reliable dealers:
1D MK IV is still € 1200 more (about 1500$) than for a preordered (at fixed price) 5D III without grip.
If the 5D III is the real deal, according to Robert, MY dreamcombi would be a pair of 5D IIIs.
300.000 actuations together, Very seldom again changing lenses ...

So, unless you NEED 10fps over 6fps, only shoot with telephotos or plan on working in a shower, surely the new-tech of the 5D3 is a no-brainer? Have I missed something?
