If it lives up to the specs, it will be a terrific zoom. Hoping to add in a year or so when rebate(s) will bring the price to 1800-1900.

If it's as sharp as the 70-200 mk II, I will pick up one. I don't care if it has IS or not...the focal length of this lens doesn't really warrant IS in my opinion. My 85L doesn't have IS and I can still get sharp images.

It would replace my seldom used tamaron 28-75

I've started using my 28-75 tamron more lately with the 5d3 and I kind of forgot what a great little lens that is(obviously as long as you know it's limitations AKA focus speed).

It is a good lens in the right conditions, i.e. not shooting wide open.

Finally Canon give me another good reason to buy it.

I use 24-70 a lot and Nikon's 24-70 just blows Canon's 24-70 MK I out of water.

5D Mark III's improved AF and the new 24-70 Mark II convinced me to pick up a Canon system.
