I'm amazed by the amount of wildlife. I thought the increased salinity made it more or less lifeless...shows what I know. I saw a documentary on the place once..quite interesting history.
Wonderful images!
Eric

Eric, the fish are dying off due to the increased salinity, but it's still the same bird magnet.

Thanks,
Steve

great set Steve,

That sunset is amazing

Morris

Thanks Morris! As far as that sunset, I saw the colors coming, and thought they might be reflected on the water too as there was very little wind, so I walked up to the shoreline, my shoes crunching on the skeletal remains of tilapia, and witnessed that scene. It was the perfect end to a fabulous visit at the Sea.

Wonderful set! Love them all. Just a phoebe? No, this is a gorgeous shot, and I have always thought say's phoebes were really cool birds. I love the other shots too. The avocet in flight is impressive.

Thanks Ashley! I agree with you about Say's Phoebes; there are a lot of them here in So Cal, but they can be REALLY photogenic, especially given the right setting. At the time of that Say's I was on the lookout for something more "exotic", but couldn't find it so when I turned around and saw the Say's I was thinking, "Nice background and light!" so took a few shots.

Wonderful shots and a wonderful rig Your Stylin' Very nice. Ed

Appreciate it Ed, and yep, I'm totally into my Home on Wheels. I'm itching to get back out, and REALLY looking forward to spending 2 weeks in the fabulous SE Arizona's fabulous Chircahua Mountains, staying at an RV place there and heading down dusty roads in my Tundra. Life Is GOOD!

Best Wishes,
Steve

snipe is really nice - amazing how close you must have been to it!

Yeah, the Snipe really surprised me -- out in the desert! Though he was in a marshy area. They're usually EXTREMELY shy, but he was out in the open and I got to within, I'd say, 15 feet of him, even moving around to get better angles.

Thanks,
Steve

Beautiful series Steve,
The Wilson's, Phoebe and the sunset shot are my top picks. Very nicely done.

Thanks Jude. The Salton Sea is the perfect place for me, a great combination of both landscapes and birds. And not too far away, either!

Nice set of shots. Like the fly by of the snows, the Say's is a dandy, however my favorite is the evening sunset shot. Dynamite.

Al, the sunsets at the Sea can be quite incredible, as you can tell. You just watch in awe as the colors become more intense. And to have very little wind so there's a reflection on the water -- it was worth walking right to the shoreline, fish skeletons crunching underfoot and getting my shoes a bit mucky.

The details on the osprey are lovely

Thanks Hayath. One of the impressive things about the Salton Sea is the variety of images you can get there, from abandoned buildings and industry to nesting trees with mountain backdrops. It's why I go back year after year.

Steve

I like the rig too! Herons on the trees was my favorite scene.
The yawning osprey was also quite sharp.

Yep, my rig is gonna change my life, no doubt about it, Andrew. I'm used to spartan camping so carting around a small house is really spoiling me! There must've been about 5 GBH nesting trees in that general vicinity, all with great backdrops. Photgraphic opportunities that combine birds and landscapes abound there at the Sea.

Best Wishes,
Steve

Thanks Lil and yes, I had a blast and what a change to go from camping out of the back of my truck to "livin' it up" in my travel trailer. I love it!

Thanks, Jay. That Wilson's Snipe really surprised me, but it was at a marshy area in a desert so I guess why not? I'm glad I got good looks at him as there are Snipes here in the park across from work that have eluded me lens so far.

Best Wishes,

Benny, hmmm....you live in San Pedro too? What a coincidence! Yes, you HAVE to go to the Salton Sea, but just make sure you go there when it doesn't rain, or things are dry. The dirt roads can turn into a mucky morass quite quickly.

Thanks,
Steve

There's lot of good stuff even here on the Peninsula as you know, Benny. But nothing beats the Sea in terms of striking, original images. And thanks for checking out my site!
