Steve,
Talking about roughing it... NOT Looks like a great time was had.
Hopefully we will get some much needed rain soon. The GBH nesting tree was amazing
-Tim
Tim, I've been roughing it out of the back of my truck for, gee, over 20 years now -- and now that I can order the Senior Menu at Carrow's I figure it's time to pamper this rapidly-decaying body! Looks like we won't be getting that needed rain you mention anytime soon. As far as the GBH trees, there must've been about 5 of them along the south part of the Sea, but this was the one that had the best view.

Looks like you had a very enjoyable trip, Steve. Fine set of beautiful images, with the Avocet being my favorite
Socrate
Socrate, I think you know me -- the fun is in BEING there, and if I get birds or landscape shots worth posting at the same time, well, that's just icing on the cake. And I've been trying to get a decent "Avocet flying out of the pond near the boat jetty" shot for over 2 years! Now that it finally happened, I can move on.

Great set Steve!! Nice variety and some great captures.
-Doug
Thanks Doug! The best thing about the SS is you never know what you might find there. I think last year they had a Brown Booby, on the shore pretty close to the refuge headquarters!

I still say you're the Ken Burns of our forum, and I mean that as the greatest of compliments Steve.
You make us experience your outings in such a wonderful way with both your images and commentary.
Wonderful Say's Phoebe, and I really enjoyed seeing all of the GBH's and their nests... cool shot.
Thanks for the roadtrip Steve, really enjoyed it.
Kirk
Kirk, you are TOO kind! But I do like to "bring" the viewer/reader with me and try to have them experience at least a part of what I did. If I accomplish that, then I'm a happy camper.

Excellent series!! I need to spend some time out there!
Leon
EVERYone needs to spend time at the Salton Sea if they can, Leon! After I returned home, a friend said the best time to go to the Sea is in March; the weather's still tolerable, and the birds are at their most plentiful. I feel another SS trip with my trailer coming...

Good ones, Steve. The great blue herons (plus your comment), and the sunset are my favorites. One of these days I'd like to visit that area.
Sharon
Sharon, let me know when you and hopefully Joan can come down here, and I'll meet you at the Salton Sea with Discovery. I'll show you my favorite spots!

Killer set by the Sea buddy
That Avocet is fantastic and wonderful detail on the Osprey
The Great Blue hangout is a cool shot but you slayed me with such a beautiful image of the Phoebe
Super documentary to accompany these terrific series as always
Tom
Thanks amigo! That Say's Phoebe certainly knew how to pick the complimentary bg and the right angle of light...Glad I could, er, "slay" you!

Great set
The detail in the osprey gets my vote.
Thanks Denis. And when I went back to the same area later that day there were TWO Osprey, one on the dead tree and another on a wire across the street. He had a rather comical look about him; it will be in a later Salton Sea post.

Nice variety Steve, great sunset shot. We thought about heading that way last week but decided it was to far for our shot trip. Bruce
Thanks Bruce, yeah, I need a few days to cover the Sea; I wouldn't go if I felt rushed because there's too much ground to cover. And if the weather if perfect, as it was -- and the dirt roads are nice and dry -- then it makes it that much harder to leave.
