Anyone else feel that SLR Magic is using Steve Huff as a bit of a product pitchman rather than an impartial reviewer ?
I mean granted that I guess Steve never says he's supposed to be neutral or anything, and I guess there is some interest in such a lenses among his typical followers, but still comes across a little over the top how much hype and promotion is going into it.
I think it can be a rather slippery slope for a reviewer when a brand chooses them to introduce new products and make product announcements.
Good way to get hits on ones website, and provide some exclusive content, and of course allows SLR Magic to market towards a captive audience, but how obliged is a reviewer then to remain fair and balanced ?
If Steve just totally panned the NEX7, or this new Hyperprime etc, would Sony really keep flying guys out to his place to hand deliver new models ?
Would SLR Magic find another online photographer with a blog to start sending copies to ?
Seems a tough balancing act between being objective and yet keeping the marketing dept feeling its worth their time to keep sending you product to try

agreed.
I wonder how many wont take them seriously at first glance as a result.
Well, it's not a Toilet Duck that a housewife comes across on a W*lm*rt shelf and grabs from out of a dozen vanilla brands because it sounds funny. Whoever is in the market for a $3K lens knows what he's after, and unless he/she is one of Ken Rockwell's proverbial Leica Men, he/she can look past the names.
Or if this is not the case, there are always a few manners of homemade remedy like black sharpie pen or tape. Probably spare red circles to glue on as well.
Hope that Erwin Puts doesn't hurt their feeling this time.
EDIT: By the way, critical as Erwin Puts is, his report actually reveal why some user report badly calibrated lens out of the box - because the design is so sensitive.
